Kentlands Citizens Assembly needs code compliance volunteer

If you are seeking a volunteer opportunity in the Kentlands community, there is an opening that you may wish to consider.

The attractive appearance of homes in Kentlands is one of the features that attract relocation families to the area. The Board of Code Compliance is the group of home owners that work to maintain the high community standards that make us proud of our neighborhoods.  Carefully read the following request from the Kentlands Citizens Assembly and offer your services if you have the skills to fill this opening.

This is the notice from the Kentlands Citizens Assembly:

Volunteer Needed for the Board of Code Compliance

Members of the the Board of Code Compliance (BoCC) review potential code issues defined by the Kentlands Design Standards.  The Board of Code Compliance investigates these potential issues and makes reasonable attempts to informally resolve cases involving alleged violations of Community Codes.

The BoCC meets at the Clubhouse on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM to review current issues and determine solutions.   Tasks include assessing code issues and actions and tracking them to closure.  Hearings may be conducted with property owners to review and encourage remedial actions and establish target dates.  In some cases, the BoCC may render Judgments on violations of Community Codes.  Judgments may include the determination of appropriate and reasonable punitive measures such as assessing fines or temporarily suspending rights to the use of common property.

We are currently seeking volunteers from members of the Kentlands Community to assist in helping maintain the standards of the Kentlands in a community team spirit.

If you are interested in serving on the Board of Code Compliance, please send a note of interest to Arthur Gailes at agailes@cmc-management.com

Roy, Kentlands strikes me as a place where these issues wouldn't come up all that frequently.  Looks like it began with some good planning.

Roy,

I personally think this Code Compliance job is a difficult one to handle as folks get very defensive these days when asked to do anything regarding their home. Good blog and hopefully some volunteers will come forward.

Roy such an important position, but for someone who will be fair, just and reasonable. I have seen lax people who do not do enough and then seen a guy run our of the bushes litterally to enforce everything in writing and his in mind. Have agreat day and stay cool today.

Hi Roy,

They better get the right person for this job. If they don't they could really make a lot of home owners mad at the board.

Have a great day in Gaithersburg my friend.

Best, Clint McKie

Roy,

This is a perfect opportunity for someone who would like to get to know all the homeowners in Kentland...although it sounds like a lot of responsibility, I am certain this position will pay off in friendships and business. ?A

Roy, volunteering to be on a board of an HOA where one lives can be so rewarding AND eye opening.  I've known so many people who do nothing but complain about the people on the board until they get on it and learn about the different laws to which they have to conform.

Roy, this is an important position for your community.  Homes that don't meet code need to correct their property to meet code for the good of the community.  The Board of Compliance members make sure the code violations are corrected.

Hi Roy, I'm a member of the Board for our neighborhood HOA - and also help with Design Standards. IMHO, the extra work, and responsibility, is worth having some control over the future of the neighborhood. HOAs and CCRs often help ensure continued values.
