Long time ago, I learned to use a feather instead of a stick when it came to beating myself up over something. Pretty soon I threw away the feather. Now, I am open to reason and change without the persuaders. When you wrong, made a mistake or just don't know... well, say so. It comes across better than anything else you can try
LAUGH...and then LAUGH AGAIN
If you fail at something, welcome to the learning curve. Assess what tripped you up, rise and then dust yourself off. Choose a direction and instruct your feet to take a step that way. Have a chuckle or two and begin again when you already. Have another laugh if you can...at yourself
SOMETIMES THEY STAND IN LINE
You have to take a beating every once in a while whether you like it or not. The world, your enemies, well meaning people and business at large will beat you up plenty. No need to help any of them. In fact, be good to yourself and realize that no on else knew anything at some point too. Whom are they kidding?
I USED TO PRACTICE THAT
If you meet someone who is practicing innocence, naivete or ignorance, try to relate and even enjoy it while entertaining how to help them. That was you many times (remember?) and think to yourself, how would you have liked to have been approached or helped? Proceed after that.
I REMEMBER WHEN...
I remember buying a gift for someone that had to be assembled. I wanted it to be special and took my time making sure everything fit and went well. Then to present the gift and bath and glow in that persons happiness. However, I looked down and saw so many left over pieces and when I consulted the instructions (whats that?), I put it together wrong. Four hours to assemble a 1 hour item?
AND THE TIME...
I just got a new coveted job (I needed badly) and the boss was even hesitant to hire me. I begged for the chance. I was working in a unfamiliar area. He says go to 538 Broadway and drop this off. Piece of cake. The only Broadway I knew of was downtown 10 miles away and 30 minutes from there. Eager to please I took off. Forty five minutes later, he wondered where I was as the errand should have taken 10 minutes tops...I asked for one more chance and got it as he just shook his head wondering about letting me go. I spent 12 years there
TO SUM IT UP
I learned from it all. The thousands of stories of growing up and learning, maturing while exploring and adjusting for errors and nonsense that you just run into. At times it was gut wrenching, tore me down, hilarious, mysterious and embarrassing. But now, I am quick to smile, grin, laugh and repeat that over and over enjoying my own little escapades. No need to stress but to modify the experience to go a little better.... perhaps smoother
Beating yourself up makes no sense...Discovering that point does...
