Indulge me if you will my fifth attempt at this well-known holiday poem. I have tried to tweak it each year.
Twas the Night before the Showing
When all through the house,
Not a Creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse.
All the papers and playthings could be seen everywhere
Even though in just hours the buyers soon would be there.
The Children in their bedrooms with iPads plugged in
Had visions of their new home dancing round in their heads.
But not so with the parents who were beginning to wonder
Had they just made a huge Staging blunder?
When out in the driveway there arose such a clatter,
They looked out their dirty window to see what was the matter.
Past the rooms full of clutter, panting hard as they ran,
Down the rickety steps , "Watch out for that Can!"
The moon lent its light to their stained driveway outside
No colorful flowers, just a lawn that had died.
But what to their wondering eyes should appear
But Room Service! Home Staging. "I’m here, have no fear!"
Just a little old stager , still lively and quick,
"Let's get this house sold! Make it the number 1 pick!"
More rapid than arrows her orders came out,
As she gestured and shouted so there would be no doubt:
Come Vacuum, and Roomba, and Big Cleaning Rags
On Comet, On Clorox, Big Boxes and Trash Bags.
To the Top of the Porch
To the Top of the Wall
Now Dirt Away, Clutter Away,
Let’s sell it all!
Wishing you the Merriest of Merrys
And the Happiest of Happys.
My first attempt? December 2010
