Do I Have to Leave It?
I was reading another thought-provoking post by Richie Alan Naggar , and it reminded me of well…. me.
One of my goals has been to go as paperless as I can, whether for work or my personal life. Show me a gadget or an app, and I’m all over it.
Files and photos for work can be found in Dropbox or Google Drive. I do have redundancies for backup, and yes, part of that does include paper.
I have shopping lists, phone numbers, photos… all on my iPhone.
And so it was that one day something needed to be worked on with my phone. Nothing major, but the gentleman at Verizon ask me…
“Can you leave it with us for 45 minutes?”
I stood there, iPhone in hand, and for a few seconds, I couldn’t move.
“You want me to leave my iPhone? And go run errands?”
It was almost as if my life flashed before me, but instead of my life, it was everything I had on the phone, and wouldn’t have with me.
Target was less than 5 minutes away, but my Target list was on my phone. How would I know what to buy?
Of course, I could have just waited there at Verizon, but even then, they would have my phone. I couldn’t get on ActiveRain, Facebook, my email, the news while I waited because they would have my iPhone.
“What if someone tries to call me?” (That was the least of my worries!)
I bit the bullet and drove to Target...without a phone! Yikes! Did we ever live like that?
Going to pick up my phone must be like what a parent feels when picking up their child who’s been away at summer camp.
So, am I attached to my phone? Do I take it everywhere with me? Is it on my nightstand at night?
What do you think?
