Hiking San Diego: from UTC to Sorrento Valley
I enjoy hiking with my English Cream, Peroni throughout San Diego the last 5 years. So, when after 14 years of living in my neighborhood, I discovered a hiking trail 1 block from my house I had to laugh at all the times I'd driven to trail heads to hike; when I could have walked across the street-I live 1 minute from a trail head! Well, it's pretty subtle so OK not to embarrassed.
It's really an SDG&E access road but it serves as a great, secluded trail for the first 1.5 miles and then you hit the fork in the road which is decision time. You can go left up a steep hill and cut back through Campus Point Dr. which is a technology park, which if returning to the trail head becomes a 2.9 mile hike.
You can continue right and you end up in Sorrento Valley. From there you have multiple choices including some urban hiking for a bit until you reach the Penasquitos Creek Trail about 2 miles further through corporate Sorento Valley.
The third option is going to the Sorrento Valley trail head and then a simple turnaround to get a 3 mile hike in once back at the UTC trail head.
The fourth choice if you like raw hill climbing no trail is to follow the right trail you'll hit at the bottom of this trail. You'll know you are there because there's a concrete drainage creek where the intersection occurs. Eventually at the top you hit hill, which exits you at the top and at the end of Technology Park's walking course.
If you are visiting San Diego and like to hike, let me know and I'm happy to share
some of my pal Peroni's favorite trails with you.
