I read a very meaningful story book one day that I never forgot. It was about a caterpillar who was traveling down the road and met other caterpillars doing the same. Then one of them became fast friends with each other and joined up. Both shared they had heard stories of good fortune, wealth and opportunities just up ahead. The two decided to seek these things out together
A GREAT DISTANT TOWER
They saw in the distance a great spiraling growth that towered into the sky with thousands of their like kind all lined up to climb it. They knew this must be the place of good fortune and got in line. Pushing shoving, cutting in front, disputes, fighting and fatalities...way too many of them were about. Dead & injured Caterpillars were all over the place. Finally after making their way through all that, their turn to climb up presented itself
THOUSANDS DETERMINED TO GET AHEAD AT ANY COST
They begin to climb up this structure and so did thousands of others on all sides of it. Many climbed over you, bump you, trick you and abuse you as they climb higher and higher toward the top where the supposed pay-off resides. As everyone is climbing and falling, caterpillars rain down on the climbers below making it very difficult to proceed. The two friends help each other up despite their injuries and setbacks. They keep climbing
ALMOST AT THE TOP
The determined two caterpillars finally through much struggle and injury make it to the top with one making if first up. He isn't there 2 seconds before he is knocked over and falls to the side. The other desperately holds on as he watches his friend bang into all sorts of others on the way down losing sight of him eventually.
WHAT HE FINDS...SHOCKING
He makes it to the top and sees everyone just pushing everyone else off the top. There is nothing there. No prize, or reward. No rest or comfort. In fact, there was no meaning or purpose in any of it yet caterpillars were dying by the thousands as he stood there trying to get up to all this? He decided to leave the top on his own and proceeded to climb down
WARNING OTHERS TO NO AVAIL
He tried to tell everyone on the way down what he saw (nothing is there) and how you will all die a meaningless death if you continue. No one would listen as he kept pleading while climbing down. He reached the bottom and ran into his wounded friend and he helped carry him off to a quiet distance away. Both came to rest at a beautiful place and were so tired and spent that they decided to spin their cocoons and retreat from all this horror
TRUST YOUR INNER PARTS
Much to their amazement...they awoke new as butterflies and each flew into the first gentle breeze that came their way and the intended promise of a true and beautiful life took hold of them both. Both were happy for each other! There was no struggle and no will...just the true being of themselves and the truest part was...it was always there waiting for them to come home
