This Week...Snakes, Summer, and School’s Out!
After posting a photo of what we saw on a recent walk at Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve, I have a few friends and family members who have declined our invitations to join us on our morning walks.
Summer afternoon, summer afternoon; to me, those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language. Henry James
It’s easy to see why! I love being out in nature but I have to draw the line at snakes. It may have resulted from the time my Brownie troop when camping and we saw 6 snakes that weekend. Think about how loud a group of 11-year-old girls can scream!
Long stormy spring-time, wet contentious April, winter chilling the lap of very May; but at length, the season of summer does come. Thomas Carlyle
The Senior Scouts nearby would run over so they could kill the snake, skin it and put the skin on their cowboy hats. (keep in mind, I grew up in Houston!)
Summer may not officially be here but it is hot! No complaints here, though, because I do remember what it was like here in January.
When all else fails, take a vacation. Betty Williams
And finally, for most of our area school is out. It’s not like it was when I was a wee one...3 months of freedom from school, sleeping late and waiting for the sweet sounds of the ice cream man driving through your neighborhood.
Happiness consists of living each day as if it were the first day of your honeymoon and the last day of your vacation. Leo Tolstoy
Have a snake-free weekend!
