Monday Motivational...It’s All How You Look At It.

My favorite ponderer, Michael Jacobs, has shared two ponderings recently So the Answer Is in the I… and Pondering My Personal Tickler File.perspective

My experience yesterday had elements of both of his posts.

My local grocery store has a few self check-out registers which can speed things up, however, my store has a limit of 10 items. So, I ended up at the regular checkout line.

I was standing in line, thinking about the bag of dark chocolate peanut M&M’s that was begging me to take them home when a voice behind me said The next register has opened up if you’d like to go there.

This was a pleasant surprise because often the person who sees the opportunity first will jump on it no matter how long you’ve been waiting in line.

I turned around and saw a very sweet lady with a loaded cart. The next line had a 15 item limit and I told her that I had a little more than that. Since the store was very busy, I was content to wait in line and not tie up the Quick line.

She sweetly said that no one would mind since I didn’t have that much and the line was open. She would have done it herself but she had a full cart.

I thanked her and went to the Quick line and there was no problem.

But there’s more….later in the day, when I was catching up with a friend, I mentioned this kind act.

Their comment was She wasn’t that nice.  With you in the next line that meant she would move up in the regular checkout line.

It’s all about where you’re standing

when you’re looking at something.

Kathy,

Yesterday in our mastermind, the subject of airports came up.  Our friend mentioned that a friend of his recently stated that she enjoyed airports because she saw so many hugs!  It is definitely a mater of  perspective.  A

Kathy - it's all about perception. Time in check-outs always offers something tempting to buy at the last minute or fleeting thoughts. Time is never wasted, even if it is just for thinking.

Have a nice day.

Kathy as you pointed out the old ladies act could have been taken both as an act of kindness, or as an act of selfishness.  Glad to see you took it in the positive light and not the negative.

Hi Kathy - thank you for the mention. Life provides many moments of perspective and of pondering.  Sometimes both.

Rick Frissell acts of kindness stay with me longer and are more deeply rooted.

Nina Hollander I love the self-checkout lines too. Some of our stores have higher limits.

Chris Ann Cleland it did!  She gave and she got as well.

HI Sheila Anderson just popped into my head.

Will Hamm that's such a shame. Maybe she herself was having a bad day.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel airports are a favorite people watching place of mine.

I thought it was thoughtful of the lady to suggest you go to the quick line! Just the other day I was waiting in line at grocery store and I had more than 15 so I didn't want to tie up the express lane. The check out gal says - oh come on - I'm really fast and it will be fine. So I did. That was sweet too!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP total agreement with you on that. People watching, reading, thinking....time not wasted.

George Souto being cynical is not something I usually am.

Michael Jacobs good to keep our minds open to it.

Hi Kathy,  It is interesting to me the different perspectives that people bring up.  I don't think I would have seen it the way your friend did either - but I wasn't there, so just hearing about it and not living it - makes my perspective different also.

LOL all depends on your point of view.

Rick and I were just at a campground that offered a prime rib dinner one of the nights. I bought our tickets online. I chose 1 Queen cut for me and 1 King cut for Rick...$3 difference between the two.

When we arrived the staff was not at all organized and the whole buffet process was confusing to say the least. We actually found the whole thing amusing, watching other guests trying to figure things out.

When we got our meat, after telling the man who was doing the cutting what size we had paid for, we found it didn't matter because he cut the same size for everyone.

At first I was a bit ticked off because we had paid extra money for Rick to have a bigger cut.

Then we decided to look at it from the other point of view...maybe we both got the KING cut. LOL
