What is ActiveRain?
Is it a blogging site?
Is it a social community?
Is it a training site?
Is it a referral site?
It depends.
ActiveRain is both a what and a who.
ActiveRain is what you as a member make of it.
You can choose one purpose, all the purposes, or none.
Cruising around the Rain over a decade plus I think I've seen about every category of Rainers you can find, and there are many.
The Profilers. Hit and run, a one day visit, fill out the profile (or hire someone from Fiverr.com to do it), and never come back.
The Lurkers. They read, but almost never comment.
The Dabblers. They splish and splash a bit, a few posts, a few comments, but not enough to get well known.
The Comets. They come in hard, write some great stuff (until their significant other busts them for spending so much time in the Rain), then leave the orbit.
The Boomerangs. They participate, leave, come back, leave, come back. Rinse, lather, repeat.
The Market Reporters. It's all they do. Skip the social aspect, they're just here for the publishing platform.
The Repeaters. You know how you can tell when Keeping Current Matters releases a new post? Just check for the same title by five different posters in about 10 slots of the blog roll.
The Watercoolers. Check for them in their native habitat, the Q&A section.
The All Biz, All The Timers. More varied than The Market Reporters, but they're here to get consumer contacts. You won't know how many kids, dogs, cats or honeybees they have.
The Buffeteers. A little bit of everything, consumer, Rainer to Rainer, general topics, specific topics, anything is possible!
The Chamber of Commercers. They've got their local market down. The parks, the businesses, the events, everything that makes their place a great place to live is there, and when they market a home they know how to tie it all together.
The Nichemeisters. They've developed a specialty and it's their focus. (Personal opinion, niche/long tail blogging has way more oomph than "general" blogging)
The Commenters. They don't write posts often, but you can count on them making the rounds and leaving comments that let you know they READ the post.
The Xerox Commenters. That's a nice listing you got there!!!
...but I was writing about my brother in law having brain cancer #TrueStory
We could add more, The Grumblers, The Jackwagons, The Z-haters, The Drama Clubbers, etc.
Some approaches work better than others.
You can become someone's Go To, or someone's Hell Nah...
Your choice!
