I was asked to speak at Rotary in White Plains, NY. Since they know my background they asked me to talk about diversity and inclusion in the context growing Rotary.
I set the stage by putting diversity and inclusion into context. It covers many dimensions besides race, ethnicity, and gender.
I explained inclusion as making people feel welcome by welcoming their ideas and beliefs and making them feel like this is a place were they can be themselves. In the large corporate concept that means organizing resource or affinity groups. These groups advise on polcies, practices, benefits, and anything as seen through the lens of each affinity group.
So my advice to the club was to ask and listen. What things would you find relevent?
Now Rotary International has set policies for this but I cautioned...
We had a great meeting and they went away with action steps to take.
