Wordless Wednesday…Smaller Than You’d Think

 

Nesting season is almost over…waiting for the last 2 chicks to leave the nest. After the last chick has fledged, each box is thoroughly cleaned with a very light solution of bleach and water. 

 

I thought I’d share a photo of two eggs that didn’t make it. The dime should give you an idea of just how small they are. 

 

 

The first time I saw them, I was amazed at just how small they were. I have no idea what I was thinking because if you think about how small a bluebird is, just how large could the egg possibly be?!!

Now that was an eye-opener, Kathy! From your pictures, it would never have occurred to me that those eggs were so tiny.

Who knew? I'm surprised too how small these eggs are! Their colors are so pretty....they look like Easter eggs.

HI Grant Schneider When we were in Delray, we saw peahen eggs under a bush once. No nest...just the eggs. 

Brian England I had not either until the first time we had an egg that did not hatch that was left in the box.

Those are exceptionally tiny eggs.  When I was a kid, there was a hummingbird that nested in an orange tree in our front yard.  Those eggs look very similar in size and color.
