Day Trips in Brea, ~ Orange County ~ CA 92811 ~ 92823

Good Old Brea, in Southern CA  is prominently featured in the June issue of Westways Magazine the publication of the Southern California Auto Club. Brea is in the spotlight on Travel ~ Day-Tripping by Eric Carpenter. There is plenty to do and see around our town.

Some of the stops included: Carbon Canyon Regional Park, a spectacular 124-acre park with a natural habitat spanning the foothills of Brea and Chino Hills. Enjoy nature by hiking some of the many trails on foot and experience one of the many mountain bike trail for yourself. I've hiked these hills myself many times.

Nearby you can find the Olinda Historic Museum and Park, once home to the city's first oil well. Anyone who know Brea understands it was known as an oil town in the early days. You can still see a few active oil wells today.

Our City Hall Park is a landmark in the area including the former City Hall and Police Station. This facility was one of the first combined facilities of this type in the County of Orange. City Hall Park is also home to Brea's Plunge built in 1929 and still open and operable today. Our park is also the site of our summertime concerts in the park, popular among Brea's residents. It's a fun time for all.

Brea Carvao Grill Downtown BreaBrea's Gallery at the Civic Center and Cultural Center is another great place to visit. Traveling exhibits are on display along with the gift shop with unusual and unique items for sale. Brea's Civic Center is also home to the Curtis Theater, a setting for life productions of all types.

While touring our city you can't help but notice the "Art in Public Places". A city sponsored program since the 1970's which has developed over 125 pieces of artwork displayed throughout the community.

Feeling hungry? Brea has a wide variety of restaurants, sometimes it seems like one on every corner. One of the newest additions is the Yardhouse on Brea Blvd in downtown Brea. Some of our eateries are well known across the U.S. while others are local favorites. Dining alfresco, no problem, plenty of places, check out Caravo Grill, one of my personal favorites. Another is Fitness Grill near the corner of Imperial Hwy. and Brea Blvd. One thing for sure, you can find something to please your palate and your budget in this town.

Now if you're ready to shop, you may need one more day in our fine community, and you can always stay at the Embassy Suites Hotel on the north side of the Mall, near the Civic Center. It's well known the Brea Mall has such a great variety of places to shop. It's  also the second highest in gross sales in Orange County, second only to South Coast Plaza.

I recently read the Westways article you referred to and agree that there is a lot to do and see in Brea. I love that the City of Brea has implemented the Art in Public Places program. I didn't realize that it was started in the 70's. I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm there. I've spent a great deal of time at the Brea Mall over the years but I had no idea that it was #2 in gross sales. That's pretty significant.  Given the choice I'd shop Brea over South Coast Plaza any day of the week. Brea offers a wide variety of stores and for the most part you can find what you're looking for without taking out an additional mortgage. South Coast is nichey, and unless there's a significant sale, ridiculously overpriced.

Kelly, thank you for the nice comment and I couldn't agree with you more on the comparison between the two malls. To me our mall is just about the right size, however there are plans for expansion. Right now it's in an impact study (isn't everything) but time will tell. My best guess, it will happen.  As for our art if public places, it actually began in 1975, and as you can imagine with had an explosion of growth in the late 70's early 80's.

Marlene, Thank you so much, And yes there is lot's to do all around town. It's been a great place to raise a family.
