50K On The Old Girl---Time To Trade Her In---Not!

A couple of days ago my Active Rain odometer turned 50K. It was actually pretty exciting. I knew it was getting close. I was so engrossed in reading one of my fave writers here on the Rain (Jason Sardi who wrote a 31^stBirthday MeMe that was absolutely outstanding) that I nearly missed the monumental turn of the wheel. Jason's article was so Jason. He opened a new window to his soul and I devoured every syllable.

That's how it is here in the Rain. Just jump in, start reading, and you just never know what great wisdom or folly you'll find waiting.As I turned fifty in the Rain, I got to thinking about the number fifty and how it seems to have special importance in many areas of our lives.

A fiftieth wedding anniversary is so important we call it Golden.
In math Fiftyis the smallest number that can be written as the sum of two squares. For you math buffs here's how it's written ; 50 = 1² + 7² = 5² + 5². Or, if you want to get really fancy, it's also the sum of three squares, 50 = 3² + 4² + 5².
In science - 50 is the atomic number of tin.
In religion - 50 years is the jubilee period.
In music - Paul Simon wrote and sang about 50 ways to leave your lover.

In so many ways 50 is a sign of some form of accomplishment. It's neither an ending nor a beginning---it's somewhere in between. And that's just fine with me. No longer just beginning here on Active Rain, but nowhere near finished. There's so much more to learn from my wonderful "dashboard" buddies (which will be at 50 in no time) like:

I wish we were still giving featured posts for milestones, it is really fun to celebrate with each member as they pass these hurdles. I didn't think I was ever going to get to 50k, it was a very difficult journey for me. This blogging and writing didn't come easy. In retrospect I would say the first 50K, for me was like basic training camp. After 50k for some reason things were much clearer and not as difficult.

Congratulations on your milestone, I hope that your second 50k goes as quickly as mine now seems to have. It has been a true pleasure making your aquaintance in the Rain and I am very much looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow.
