This is one of a series titled San Diego has been blessed with spectacular sunsets for about a week now. It's unusual because usually our best sunsets result from particulate matter in the air from wildfires. I've been waiting for a very clear evening to go to Mt. Helix to see the sunset, and today was the day! Mt. Helix peaks at 1,365 feet above sea level, and since it's only about thirteen miles inland, the views of Mexico, There is a huge cross at the top of the peak, and it's a very popular place for lovers, sightseers, and sunset watchers. San Diego sunset from the top of Mt. Helix
San Diego, La Jolla, and El Cajon are amazing on a clear day. There is also a park and an amphitheatre at the top of the peak where there are performances during the summer months. The Mt. Helix Park Foundation takes care of everything.

Looks very inviting down there. Happy New Year Jim. All the best in 2011.
Didn't know that there were mountains that close to the San Diego coast. These are some really nice shots, especially the second one with the trees silhouetted.
Jim, it looks like a fantastic view from that mountain. I'll agree with John, my favorite is the one with the silhouette of the tree.
Hi Jim
You make me homesick. I lived in San Diego for over 25 years. By the way-your profile pic makes you look about 25--and yet 30 years in the book biz...I need that photographer
Jim, well, that brought back memories of about a thousand years ago for me, a summer spent in San Diego. The photos are spectacular, what a wonderful sight. Thank you!
Jim, those are spectacular! It's important for sellers to work with an agent who has good photography skills... and it's important for homebuyers in San Diego to work with someone who obviously knows the special spots in the City! Congrats!
Jim, what beautiful evening shots. I bet the views are great any time of the day though! Have a good weekend!
Looks like watercolors were splashed to paint this magnificent sunset. Great photos and thanks for sharing that special moment. Something about first hand experiencing such beauty truly sets the tone for a great ending of the day.
Hi Jim! I was just over at Gary's (Cole) blog and read about your quest for the perfect sunset so I had to come over here and see for myself how it turned out. Very nice - like fire and cand in the sky!
The silouette of the tree is wonderful as are the subtle play of colors. May you always be on top the mountain :)
