Paying It Forward:  Another Trip to Blue Ash's Hoxworth Blood Center

Time flies when you're busy!  Another 8 weeks, so Monday was time to get a pint lighter and visit the local blood center in Blue Ash on Kenwood Road!

Hoxworth Blood Centers serve 32 community hospitals in a 17 county area centered on Cincinnati.  To meet their daily demands, they need a MINIMUM of 350 whole blood (that's what I do) and 40 platelet donors.  That's DAILY.  That's a LOT of blood, and a lot of need.

That kid in the bad car wreck, the parent undergoing treatments, it can all hit home pretty quick.  One in 20 individuals will need blood given to them at some point in their life.  We know everyone can't give, and we understand that!  But if you ARE eligible to give, PLEASE make the time!  You literally may be saving someone's life!

Hoxworth Blood Center

Hoxworth Blood Center understands customer service!  You can even sign up for your appointments online by visiting http://donateblood.uc.edu !  They also follow up with a letter thanking you for your donation and letting you know in general terms where your donation went!  My last donation in March helped a patient at The Christ Hospital here in Cincinnati.

"I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition.  I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can.  No more, no less."  Tish Lloyd, North Carolina REALTOR®

I'm a BIG fan of giving blood. Thanks for the reminder that my 57 day wait is coming soon.

We may not be able to give blood where you are, but we can all give where we are.

Love the red font.  :)

Thanks Bill

Good morning, Bill...giving blood is one of the most noble acts of kindness that one person can give to another....you're the best.

Tom, The red font is reserved for the blood donation posts....just a little not so subtle subliminal suggestion!  And every area does have their own centers, so visit when you can!  The folks at Hoxworth give me a buzz as soon as I'm eligible again, so no chance to mess up!

Barbara, Have been giving now for 30 years, my first pint was as a senior in high school :)  It's not always been every 8 weeks (Navy schedules weren't always workable!).

Amy, I've been lucky, NOT one of those folks yet!  But the 1 in 20 stat was from Hoxworth's last communication letter to me.  Thanks for donating!

BLiz, I grew up knowing the improtance of giving blood and did it regularly for years from the times I was 16.  I no longer can give blood but kudos to all that can and do.

Liz & Bill - I donate as much as I can and I've been trying to get my husband on board.  I was interviewed by our local blood center who told me donated blood is used within a day or two.....I was shocked by how fast it gets used.

Michelle, I think once they clear the screening tests, the shelf life isn't long at all.  Good luck getting your husband on board!
