Lebanon's Christmas Festival Horse Drawn Carriage Parade December 1 2012

The Lebanon Christmas Tree was lit last Friday, and now it's time to get serious about Christmas in Lebanon with the 24th Annual Lebanon Christmas Festival Horse Drawn Carriage Parade on December 1st 2012!  With a parade at 1 p.m. and a repeat performance at 7 p.m. with candlelight, there will be close to 100 horse drawn carriages.  You want Clydesdales?  Got 'em!  Little itty bitty ponies?  Got those too!  They'll make you say awwwwwww!  And of course all sizes in between pulling decorated carriages and wagons! We're getting some snow flurries tonight, so who knows what the weather will be like Saturday?

Lebanon Ohio's Horse Drawn Carriage Christmas Parade

Lebanon's Christmas Festival Horse Drawn Carriage Parade is sure to have another sizable turn-out, but why wouldn't it?  This is a family holiday tradition for our area.  Santa and Mrs. Claus will be wandering the area providing photo ops!  Vendors will have hot chocolate and food to keep you warm.  A few character actors in historic garb singing Christmas carols add to the atmosphere.  This is a guaranteed enjoyable time (unless you forget the dressing warm part!).

You may even want to watch both the 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. tours, so take advantage of the in-between time to support our local small businesses.  Maybe get some food to warm you up at 180 Cafe, shop for some unique presents up and down Broadway and the side streets and you just might finish a large part of your Christmas shopping!

Now as far as parking, there are some public lots for free, but don't expect those spots to last long!  You'll also have free enterprise at work and parking nearby for about $5, or you can park on the residential streets for free.  Allow plenty of time to find a spot and wear your walking shoes because you're probably going to be a few blocks away (at least!) if you go for the neighborhood spots.

Lots of people bring their collapsible chairs and grab a spot on Broadway for prime viewing, that the route boxes around downtown, so there are other spots that will work for watching the show!

So dress warmly and have a great time at the parade!

Clint, They have so much fun they just keep coming back year after year!  Haven't seen the big Budweiser wagon yet!  And you're right, this Saturday there will be quite the crowd downtown Lebanon.  If not attending, plan your travel in the area accordingly because a lot of the streets will be blocked off.

Paula, 100+ carriages is a lot of horses & ponies, and quite the variety too!

Dale, It's a lot of fun and pretty cool to watch!

Anita, That was an unusually chilly day, but a perfect setting for a Christmas parade :)

When visiting with the Amish 2 years ago, I saw how they use the horse and buggy as part of their everyday lives. I am for this

Richie, There are some Amish settlements in Ohio, but not all that close to this parade.

Andy, I think we're in the right book.  Not expecting coal in my stocking this year :)

Debbie, It's a very popular event!  I usually have to walk at least 4-5 blocks to find a free place to park.

Dave, Go for it!

This looks like a really nice event.  I'd go to this in a heartbeat if they had something like it here in CA.  The closest we have is a horsedrawn carriage that can be rented for select time slots during the winter months.  Still fun but not as much as the parade.

Bryan, There's a large range in variety from little carts to elaborate wagons and carriages.  Closing is out two years ago was a turn of the century (1900s) fire engine (top left of the collage).  Ringing bells and pretty cool to see!

It's so nice to see old fashion Christmas Parades instead of Holiday whatevers.  I hope you get a mere dusting of snow and nothing more.

Chris, Maybe we won't even have the dusting.  Most years we don't have snow, just happened to get enough in 2010 to flavor my pictures :)

Marilyn, They should be fine :)

You guys are amazing! Not only do you write beautifully, but your photos and videos give folks a window into your beautiful area. Your personal marketing doen't even look like marketing .

You just help folks by combining real estate information with coverage of all the compelling cultural and social aspects of your corner of Ohio. Great work.

Steve, Thanks!  We figure step 1 of a buyer wanting to buy a home with us is first they have to like our area enough to want to live there.  So we're essentially a branch of the local tourism board and advocate strongly for what's great about our area.  And fortunately our area gives us PLENTY of opportunity to advocate for them :)
