First of all thanks to Dick Greenberg for hosting and managing the November Photography Contest! I didn't get into photography all that much before I began my journey on ActiveRain in 2008. I have learned to really appreciate the stories and the beauty of photos and how much fun it is looking at life through a lens. This contest has giving me a chance to look back, reflect and be thankful for the people in my life.
My first photo must be of my sweet brother Mike and his wife Rose! Mike is my older brother who always looked after me since the time I was a little girl. He truly was the best big brother a girl could have - ever. He was the funniest, most lovable guy and the life of any party by a long shot! He always had a good thing to say about everyone and every situation. He looked at life with amazement and wonder until the day he died. Mike passed over 2 years ago and he's been missed by us all - a lot. But some how he always 'seems' to be at every family event in spirit. I can hear Mike cracking jokes and see his effervescent smile in his son Keith. That is such a gift! Two peas in a pod for sure!
Last summer at a family wedding celebration in Canada his wife Rose, kids and grand kids were all there. I was able to spend special time with Rose which meant a great deal to me. I always looked up to Rose in high school and college and was so happy when she married my brother Mike. The 3 of us spent a lot of time together over the years and I learned a lot from both of them about life, French cooking and wine! Every Sunday while in college I'd head out to their lake home and we would watch The Julia Child's Cooking Show and cook a fancy dinner with the appropriate wines. Mike always liked to pick out the wines and Rosie was the head chef. My job was to be the sou chef and taste wine. A lot of very fond memories with Mike and Rosie. And many more to come I'm sure one way or the other!
