A Blogging State of Mind
Liz and Bill Spear (Bill) wrote a post in his Ask An Ambassador series titled Ask An Ambassador: I Got Nothing!!
I can so relate to that. Even after over 10 years of blogging, there are days when my mind is a blank. The well is dry. I got nada!
And yet, there are some weeks when everywhere I look, I see an idea for a post.
A Blogging State of Mind
What the heck is that? What I learned after I joined ActiveRain after several months of blogging is that the more you blog, the more you get that blogging state of mind. (*Scroll down if you’d like to listen to the song that’s probably running through your mind. Might as well hum a little while you read!)
You learn that people, animals, events, situations, things...the list goes on...can become topics for a post.
For example, you take your car in for service and the manager and staff go above and beyond what you would have expected.
You chalk it up to how lucky you were and that’s it.
However…..
Your new blogging state of mind sees a post about good customer service in this. You may write about how they exceeded your expectations and relate this to the Real Estate industry.
Pretty soon it becomes second nature to you to see a possible post in incidental happenings.
That blogging state of mind also learns to kick in when you read someone else’s post and you realize that the comment you were writing is a post all by itself. Or you’re trolling the Q&A and your thoughts on the various answers become a post.
That blogging state of mind is also contagious. Soon your spouses, partners, friends, and children will be pointing out blogging topics to you!
One more thing…
We all have to find what works for us. Some of you have a phenomenal memory and will remember the topic you think would make a good topic. However, for the rest of us, you may want to find a trick or method that works for you.
For example, if an idea pops into my mind I may text the idea to myself, add it to my Notes app on my iPhone, or add it to my Blog Ideas folder in Google Docs. I’ll even flesh it out in Google Docs if I have the time...nothing like striking while the iron is hot!
If you’ve just started blogging, keep at it. Make it your own and write using your own words. The more you do this, the more you’ll develop that blogging state of mind.
