ceramic artist: Artist's Home Has Colorful Glass Counters - 04/05/22 06:01 PM

We are looking forward to getting this artist's home on the market in the next few days. Located in the  Hampden area of Baltimore, close to Roosevelt Park, this row house charmer was built in 1880, give or take a year or two.
I love seeing all the creativity of a working studio. Maybe I'm a bit partial since I was a ceramic and porcelain artist.
The colorful stained glass counters remind me of other unique kitchen surfaces.
This home is adorable, with the owner's stained glass adorning the windows and her studio on the first floor, where the wheel spins and the kiln … (10 comments)

ceramic artist: Personal and Unique The Rome Way - 02/26/22 12:12 AM
This month's challenge is to tell how our unique experiences have influenced our life and work perspectives.
* Where were you born?
I was born in Danville, Virginia, attended George Washington High School, and moved to Baltimore to pursue my nursing career.
* What was your upbringing?
My parents owned a restaurant and delicatessen open seven days a week. My father was a diabetic, and I gave him insulin shots. He died of his first heart attack at forty-nine. At eight years old, I knew that I wanted to be a nurse!
Mother ran the business opening from six in the morning until nine … (23 comments)

ceramic artist: Real Estate Porcelain Pots & Babe Ruth - 08/29/20 08:15 PM
Quality vs. Quantity

A teacher told the class of pottery students that half of them would be graded on the number of pots they produced, and the other half on the quality.
In the "quantity" group, it didn't matter how good or bad their results, only the total amount of pots they created would count.
For the "quality" group, all they had to have at the end of the semester was just one perfect pot to get that "A" in the course.

They started to … (38 comments)

ceramic artist: Quality Or Quantity - 12/06/19 07:08 PM

Quality is always better than quantity!
Or is it?

A teacher told his class of pottery students that he would grade half of them on the number of pots they produced, and the other half on the quality. In the "quantity" group, it didn't matter how good or bad their results, only the total number of pots they created would count. For the "quality" group, all they had to have at the end of the semester was one perfect pot to get that "A" in the course.
They set to work. The wheels whirled and the "quantity" students turned out pot after pot, improving with … (39 comments)

ceramic artist: Before Real Estate - 10/02/19 09:11 PM
An ActiveRain Challenge for October 2019 - 'In My Past Life I…'
is hosted by Jeff Dowler, CRS
In researching just what to write about,  this post came up written by another AR member Erika Rae Albert, Austin Real Estate Expert

Real estate was not my first career.

 Receiving my nursing diploma

The first started many years ago when my goal was to be a nurse. And I filled that goal, became a Pediatric RN, and then a head nurse.
Loved it.

Nursing prepared me for life. And it was probably the best at teaching me how to sell.
If you can convince a patient, especially a child, to take a yucky tasting … (23 comments)

ceramic artist: How Did You Get Into Real Estate? - 07/01/18 06:52 PM

When meeting up with a friend from high school, I was asked to share my journey of becoming a Realtor®

Real estate was not my first or second career.
I started as a Registered Nurse and then a porcelain artist making custom ceramic pieces for designers, home owners and even agents to give as house warming gifts.

Then there was a car accident... I was rear ended while driving and told not to lift more than five pounds. Since a box of clay weighed 50 pounds.. there would be no more ceramics for awhile.

Someone suggested a real estate course and  I signed up...just to
"tide me over"
until I … (8 comments)

ceramic artist: Re-purpose That Space - No More Big TV - 07/09/17 08:24 PM

What do you do with that great mammoth space where the old big screen TV was in a prominent position?

First get rid of the TV and all the wiring for the speakers and other devices. Then find a custom cabinet-maker to make shelves that go with the rest of the room.
Add some special lighting.
Then the fun begins...take things you  really love and make a display. It's your special home,
it could be photos or it could be the ceramic art you made in the life before real estate.
How would you re-purpose this space?

ceramic artist: Why Did I Chose Real Estate ? - 11/18/15 08:39 PM

Why Did I Chose Real Estate ?

Real estate was not my first or second career.  I started as a Registered Nurse and then a porcelain artist making custom ceramic pieces for designers, home owners and even agents to give as house warming gifts.

Then there was the accident...rear ended while driving.  After sustaining a neck and back injury, the doctors  recommended surgery.  Since they would/could not guarantee the use of my hands, I refused.
They advised me not to lift more than five pounds.  Are you kidding?  My box of clay weighed 50 pounds..no more ceramics for awhile.

During this same time, I received  … (57 comments)

ceramic artist: Another Kind of pot - 10/17/06 03:08 PM
The Clay Connection
About a week ago I decided to take some rare time away from real estate and reconnect with my inner artist. The Baltimore Clayworks  http://www.baltimoreclayworks.org/home/index.html  was hosting a panel discussion with international artists in connection with a gallery exhibition. It sounded like the perfect couple of hours completely removed from listing and selling for this former ceramic artist.
So there I was on a Sunday afternoon at a nearby conference center for a lecture/panel discussion that turned out a bit differently than planned. Two of the three panelists were unable to be there, so the one remaining brave soul, … (7 comments)
