blogging: Cruisin' - 05/14/10 12:04 PM

I had the opportunity to present classes at the IBA (Independent Broker's Association) Educational Conference and Trade Show a few days ago. It was one of the rare, perfectly sunny days in Seattle: the sky was blue, the water sparkled, and it was almost 70 degrees.  It might have been difficult to be in class all day, except the classes were held on one of the Argosy Cruise Ships. It was so much fun! There was a large crowd. They had the opportunity to hear my friend, Larry Christesen teach: Core Curriculum and the New Transition class or me teach: … (2 comments)

blogging: Sneak Preview! - 01/05/10 02:47 PM
In my last blog, I mentioned that I would share some excerpts from my new book, "Make the Move." Here is a preview of the cover- what do you think?

The premise of "Make the Move" is to help agents who have not mastered online marketing and systematized their business using Internet tools. The goal is to help them migrate their business online. My goal is to provide you with the information I have learned over the past 7 years teaching Internet marketing and technology training to agents and brokers. I will also share with you the best and brightest … (7 comments)

blogging: More Excerpts from “Make the Move” - 11/17/09 01:25 PM
Before I move onto some of the other agents featured in the book, I thought I'd add a few other comments from Donna Harris. Here is Donna, in her own words.
"I have grown my database with the Internet leads I have purchased. NAR says nationally the number (of Internet consumers) is 87 percent.  I'd rather spend my marketing dollars online.
I also input my past clients into my database and my sphere of influence - actually everyone I meet or who contacts me. I have grown my database to over 3,500 prospects and clients since I started keeping track in … (4 comments)

blogging: Next... Question # 2 - 04/22/09 11:51 AM
The next question we need to address is, "What new skill have I learned today?"
In order to accomplish this great habit of lifelong learning, think about the skills you need to learn to be successful in this market; then make a list of what you need to know.
Sample list:
•        How to negotiate? (Over the past several years that became a lost art- we only had to ask, how much over asking price do you want to spend.)
•       How do I handle selling foreclosures and REOs? (Essential today!)
•        How do I syndicate my listings?
•        … (2 comments)

blogging: Panel of Experts - 04/06/09 02:37 PM
The REBARCAMP event at Zillow was packed with information and people generously willing to share their expertise.  There was a great panel of blogging experts: Brad Coy, from San Francisco, Rhonda Porter, The MortgagePorter and Marlow Harris, CBBain.  They shared when, where, how often, and where to obtain content to blog to generate business.  All three generate the majority of their business online- through blogging.
They provide valuable information, answer questions and establish trust relationships before people are ready to buy and/ or sell.  When the time is right, they are the professionals of choice.  That was a wonderful example of … (2 comments)

blogging: It has been awhile! - 03/09/09 03:31 PM
I cannot believe I took time off from blogging!  This goes against everything we teach in class.  No excuses.  However, after completing a book in mid- Jan and 4 new classes in Feb, I just couldn't do it!  If you have any suggestions on how to keep at it- I would welcome your tips.  I'll let you know a little about the book as soon as I get it back from my editor.
There are several things I would like to write about. I'll write about them a bite at a time.
The first item is that I attended the BloodHound … (3 comments)

blogging: How Are You Doing? Honestly... - 09/18/08 01:22 PM
How much business are you generating from your website?  Do you even have a website?
According to NAR, many agents don't have a personal website.
With 84% of consumers searching the web, don't you want to have an online presence?  Think of a website like a listing- it is a way to market yourself as well as your listings.  You can drive traffic to our website with postcards, flyers, your business cards, blogging, posting on Trulia.
How are YOU marketing yourself online?

blogging: Common Craft = Online Learning - 08/22/08 12:56 AM
Here is another great tool! (FREE)
Go to www.CommonCraft.com to watch clever, informative tutorials on RSS feeds, blogging, social networking and many other topics.  This is one of the most innovative sites I have seen.
As an individual, it is fun to watch and learn.
As a manager of an office, I'd want to make sure my "seasoned" agents who may not be familiar with the benefits of social networking and blogging, could watch these tutorials and feel more comfortable with some of the newer marketing methods.
As a trainer, I licensed (for a small fee) a few of the tutorials so … (3 comments)

blogging: "Open House" Idea.. - 08/20/08 01:29 PM
Has anyone tried holding an Open House from the comfort of your own home?
Here's an idea for you:
Let your prospects and clients know that you will be available online in the evening to answer their questions and provide them information. You could schedule an online "Open House"- you are open for business from 7- 9 pm two nights per week. Use IM (the Instant Messaging feature). You are online many evenings catching up, adding listings, photos, blogging, and answering emails. So are your customers and clients! You can include this information on your web site and then send an … (1 comments)
