obstacles: “Are we closing tomorrow or what?”

A nice young couple entered into a contract to purchase their first home. They desperately want it. And we are supposed to close tomorrow. But we are still waiting on “final approval.” Now you might guess that we are talking about waiting for the buyer’s loan approval, but we are not. The buyer’s loan package has been at the closing agent’s office since last week. We are waiting for the SELLER to approve the transaction. Even though THEIR attorney completed the HUD-1 per THEIR instructions and they have had nearly a week to review it, we still do not have final (27 comments)
obstacles: There are mountains to climb ... maybe ...for someone!

We know all of the mountain analogies. Mountains have always been considered as obstacles, something blocking our destiny that needs to be conquered. And we all know that it takes hard work and fortitude to get to the mountaintop. That goes without saying! But what is often left unsaid is that the view from the bottom of the range is pretty good too! It's the valleys that collect the rain and the fertile soil making them most suitable for excellent farming and human habitation. The coves nestled amidst the peaks offer protection from raging tempests and surging storms. Our pioneer ancestors (22 comments)

In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the high elevation spruce-fir forest has been under attack for several decades, and the tall Douglas and Frasier firs and the Eastern Hemlock are being lost forever. What is interesting is that these might giants are succumbing to the tiniest of enemies. The culprit is a small insect, the wooly agelid. The agelid is a parasite that infests the trees and over a long period of time, literally sucks the life out of them. What once was a magnificent forest cover has been reduced to tall wooly skeletons of what once was. These trees (15 comments)
