This week is a sad week for me, since I am in Rhode island. I usually spend the first week of August in Anderson, South Carolina to celebrate my firstborn's son, John Michael's birthday on August 1st, my daughter-in-law, Victoria's birthday on August 4th, and my first born grandson, Nolan Bryce, August 6th.

What a blessed woman you are.  Sorry you are not celebrating with your family, but I think you are all lucky to have each other!

Kathleen, maybe out of sight but definitely not out of your heart or mind. My wife often leaves me for the other man, our 5 month old grandson, Rafael. And she couldn't be happier to do it, nor do I mind.

DIXIE and DICK:  We are so fortunate and blessed to have a family and grandchildren. Happy belated birthday to your grandson. Does he live close to you. I hope someday to get closer to mine. 19 hours is a bit too long to drive in a day.

ED: You are totally on the mark. my boys are always in my heart ands in my mind. I talk with them frequently and see them on the web cam.Technology is awesome but they haven't figured out how to send and receive actual hugs LOL

Rafael must be precious. When Nolan was born 5 years ago I spent from October 19-November 30th taking care of him because my Daughter-in-law had returned to the hospital after her delivery with complications and those weeks are cherished memories.

GINGER: You are most fortunate and blessed to have your grandchildren close by. Even 4 hours is not so far. When my grandson. Daddy, my son was in college in Pennsylvania at Messiah College his Dad and I would visit  and see him occasionally since it was a 9 hour trip that could be done in a day.

Kathleen, I hope you get to go spend time with your family as soon as possible.  Have your tried keeping in touch online through SKYPE?  My daughter spent 1 1/2 years in Germany and we still talked and saw each other every day with our cameras on our computers and SKYPE.  The best part it's free!  Not as good as a real hug but it got me through the day.

IRENE: I love my webcam that Mark got for me and sent one to his brother in SC so we could see each other  on the computer. My grandsons love it. In fact tonight my Skype was not working and we could not figure how to enable it, they were going to let me see Nolan open his package of presents that I had sent for his birthday. Unfortunately I could not see what was happening but I could hear yjr excitemnt. Vicky said she wished I could see him putting on his new "car" pjs and getting ready for bed.

MARILYN: I not only talked to them on their birthdays, but I sang to them as well. My son knows when the phone rings on his birthday at 9:30 am it will be me singing "Happy Birthday. Each year I have made this a tradition of singing to him at the time he was born.

BOB: Thank your all those birthday wishes for my family in SC.  I did not know you had a Sad at Activerain group, I went to the groups and could not find it listed. Is this a new group?

STEVE: When I visit them during their birthdays, would you believe I give them each a separate celebration, cake, ice cream and gifts on each day as a special occasion for them. I certainly missed not doing my annual ritual this year.
