One of the reasons why it's useful to get an annual pass to your local Zoo or Aquarium is because different things happen at different times of the year. In addition to that, the Zoos and Aquariums are always trying to make a visit more interesting each time to keep you coming back. Out at the Wild Animal Park, there is a breeding pair of African lions. They had three cubs last year, but the problem with their exhibit area, which is huge, is that they prefer to stay in one spot which is rarely visible to the public.... ....until now. The Zoo has created a new viewing area into the favorite resting spot for these African lions, and you can see that it's a busy spot now, for both the lions and the people: I know that some people don't like Zoos and Aquariums, but I have a much greater appreciation for Mother and Father Nature's creatures when I'm just two inches from them, as opposed to simply seeing a picture in a book or a documentary on television.

Hi Jim~ One of my daughters has a obsession with lions and tigers. I can't get over the size of that paw!
I love going to zoos and aquariums. We can learn alot from our "cousins"... I love the San Deigo Zoo... in my book it is the BEST!
Hi Jim,
Check out the size of that paw! Zoey is going to get jealous! Thank you for sharing the photos of the lions. I love Big Cats!
Rita
Love animals and zoos -- thanks for the great photos of some wonderful fellas.
Very nice captures... They almost look like you could pet them... I'm sure there must be some safety glass between the views and the lions..
Jim, that looks a little too up close and personal for my tastes! Great photos though!
This is the first year in ages that we have not made the trip to the Calgary zoo for a day. I am not sure how we missed it on our travel schedule this year, but I have been every year for the past 30 years.
Hey, Jim. You have to love annual passes. We just purchased one to the local county parks. Great photos, I hope that Miss Zoey is not the jealous type. Take care, Jim
Hey, Vickie - Not only is it a big paw, but it's a beautiful paw, too!
Hey, Joan - I did a post on my Top 10 Aquariums: http://activerain.com/blogsview/1159396/my-top-10-aquariums-in-the-u-s-and-canada. I need to do a Top 10 Zoos. Hmmm. I think I'll put that next on my list tonight.
Hey, Rita - I make sure Zoey the Cool Cat is asleep whenever I do blogs on other cats - LOL.
Hey, Bob and Carolin - I wish I could just do blog posts all day about animals!
Hey, Diane - Glass was the only thing between us and them.
Hey, Tony and Darcy - Not to worry. They pretty much like the Wild Animal Park and are fed quite well, so they probably are not interested in us other than to wonder why we're so interested in them.
Hey, Robert - How can you leave a Zoo visit off your calendar?
Hey, Jim and Maria - I don't want to take a chance on Zoey the Cool Cat being jealous, so I only work with other kitties when she's asleep.
Hey, Matt - Slightly bigger paws than our kitties!
