Paying It Forward: Lending a Hand to Our Active Rain Friends
One of the great things about the Rain is everyone's willingness to help. We've had many give us fantastic advice, the heads up when a draft post is PUBLIC (Thanks Cindy in Indy!), tips on how to make our posts better, SEO advice, and we value that help!
So when we get the opportunity to Pay It Forward, well that's an easy decision and action to make. If we see an error in a data table, we'll send a side email alerting the poster. Typo in the title...another email. One of our favorites is to send a post link on a how to spiff up comment signatures. Letting others know your service area is key to possible referrals. As we exchange comments, it is always nice to associate the name with the geography. There are certain people that if you say the area, a name immediately comes to us!
So take a little time and lend a hand to your fellow Rainers!

Judy, I think the trick for the newbies is getting someone to notice the question. Once you get past that, someone will almost always answer :)
Deborah, Just reading and commenting will give someone the opportunity to gain immense knowledge. Posting is the opportunity to take it to the next level. We started just lurking...reading only...then the occasional comment...then worked into where we are today :)
I had no idea when joining AR that there would be so much help available. It's just fantastic.
Glenn, Who'd have thought it without experiencing it firsthand? :)
This is so funny...as soon as I saw your picture pop up I was going to stop by and thank you for the email w/ the heads up on my title typo. Hilarious that it's mentioned in here. I do the same thing.
Great post.. AR members are so helpful..
With all the hands that have been extended to me with friendship and help how could I not reach out to others. Suggest from me too.
Debbie, We've gotten the same back, so always willing to pass it on :)
Sheila, They certainly are!
Liz, Thanks! There's not keeping up with the counts on help received, but plenty of instances since we started here!
Cindy, Works for us! :)
Excellent advice and something I've worked hard at improving. Some give so freely of their time, advice, and helpful hints...they are always appreciated when I get them.
Liz & Bill ~ I think you have the edge on helping so many of your fellow 'Rainers in such a respectful manner. And, as so many have said, this community is unlike any other for caring and sharing. Thank you, both.
Anita, And the advice you gave us is still printed out and in my To Do list of things to do...haven't forgotten, just haven't implemented YET! :)
Tish, There are so many fine examples here that I can't place us in the top tier. We just help where we can :)
Bliz ~ I love this! The AR community is a great place to hang out withtop notch folks, like yourselves.
Bliz,
I do the same. Emails, phone calls, a text to help or alert a member to something. I am not surprised that you do also. :)
This is a wondfully supportive community. I really appreciate the emails I recieve when someone spots a typo - or the heads up about that dreaded draft that accidentally went public (only happened once so far - but that's one too many time). And BTW I took the hint and added my service area! Thanks.
Dawn, I can't think of anyplace else that we can pick up so much valuable information in so short a time! Conventions have nothing on the Rain! :)
Judi, Not surprised at you either :)
Karen, Glad I could access via the Crackberry and switch the status! And letting people know your service area can only do good things for you :)
Without questions BLiz lending a hand to fellow Rainers is second nature to many of us and it works both ways. I know I have certainly had a fair share of members give me a heads up on a few things.
Tish is great, and so are you. I send emails to people, too. Better to look good to clients than have a spelling error or some number out of place.
Charita, It definitely comes full circle!
Don, I catch myself regularly with the switched words that spell check won't catch there/their, our/are, so folks catching my errors and sending an email is appreciated! Clients will notice our glitches if we don't fix them.
Heck you guys never have typos! You also have one of the most consistantly attractive layouts in your posts regardless of the content. AND the content is never just slung up against the wall. Everything we do here is mostly public, so putting out quality stuff like you guys do is the way to go.
Steve, I WISH I could say we never have typos! I do fix them when someone tells us or I catch them, whichever first! Folks like you sharing the Smilebox app have helped with our aesthetics! :)
