Christmas Eve Traditions
What family traditions have you continued into your adult life? Have you added others from your spouse and spouse's family?
When I was growing up, my mom and dad were divorced and mom always thought it was a good idea to invite those who had no family and no where to go into our home for Christmas Eve dinner. It was not surprising to have 25 for dinner Christmas Eve.
We always had ham or prime rib for Christmas Eve dinner and many brought side dishes and it was like a feast Christmas Eve.
All who attended brought a gift and everyone's name was drawn and everyone attending received a gift. Often times my mom bought everyone a small gift too, so all guests had two gifts. When my grandpa was alive, he always dressed up as Santa for all us kids, was SO much fun!
My mom was a piano teacher, and we always congregated around the piano and sung Christmas carols for at least an hour after dinner and after presents were opened. (the kids could not wait)
This week I have been asking clients I have been visiting what their Christmas Eve Traditions were and here are some others -
~ Allow the children to open ONE present, the rest are opened on Christmas morning
~ The one present opened on Christmas Eve are new pajamas (the whole family got new PJs)
~ Serve hot chocolate and tell Christmas stories
~ Christmas Eve service at Church, candlelight communion
~ Christmas caroling
~ put up the tree, decorate it and light the tree
It was fun to remember my younger years where Christmas Eve was really fun with the entire family.
What are YOUR Christmas traditions?
