HighWaterLine- Delray Beach- Our Earth Day Awareness.

Earth Day is being celebrated in many communities in many different ways.  Delray Beachdelray Beach - storm waves will also be participating by joining in HighWaterLine...visualizing Climate change on April 25, 2015!

This effort focuses on the challenges at the local level, bringing together artists, experts, and community members.

Delray Beach’s HighWaterLine calls attention to sea level rise.

Three neighborhoods have been designated as having been impacted by rising sea levels and flooding.

There will be 3 walks at each location where participants will take turns using a wheeled line marker to draw a line along the 4 foot mark which is an average of where flood waters reach after a storm surge or heavy rains.

Delray BeachBut that’s not all!

*Veteran’s Park- from noon to 5 pm there will be informational booths and vendors to celebrate Earth Day.

*Finders Keepers Art Search at Noon

You can search for talisman tiles at the Beach, Intracoastal and Frog Alley.

*7 PM  There will be a water dance moving choir procession (think live music and LED Lights!)

You can also see street art and murals being painted at storm drains to call attention to outdated infrastructure.

**Note-you can check here for scheduling information

Good morning Kathy. I just don't understand why Earth Day needed to be celebrated on a particular day rather than everyday.

You have some nice stuff going on.

Kathy, I think it would be scary living near the coast and seeing the sea level increase!     Nice post for Earth Day!

Great Delray Beach photos Kathy. That top one is pretty scary. It gets like that around my beach too.

It is very important to stay on top of this, as water is such a powerful thing and causes a great deal of destruction quickly.

Kathy, Everyone knows that Florida is nothing more than a sand spit (the whole state). If there was a real issue regarding climate change Florida would already be under water. Please don't fall in with those nuts.

BTW Rick Scott has it right.

Hi Kathy - That's a good program for bringing home a harsh reality that we're already seeing but is going to get a lot worse.

Gabe- and I care because?????  LOL  Gabe Sanders

BARFF- you're backkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!   Roger D. Mucci

Beth- as it should be! Beth Atalay

BarbaraT- I've been through a few hurricanes when we were on the water.  Best thing you can do is have insurance, put your storm shutters up, bring in anything that is loose, tie up your boat, and leave!!! Barbara Todaro

Cindy- we all have to take responsibility. Cindy Edwards

Joe- I do agree.  We are caretakers and guests here and have to take care of our planet. Joe Petrowsky

Joan- that is why Delray and other communities are trying to be proactive! It's actually pouring now! Joan Cox

Noah- I took that one right after Sandy went through here a few years ago.  Of course we didn't get it half as hard as up north. Noah Seidenberg

Brian- Florida has been trying to undo what we did many years ago with the Everglades and water system. Brian England

Bill- while I will admit to being a nut about many things, and while the loss of land due to rising water is not an imminent threat,  we have to have our eyes open and be open minded.

Dick- I think that getting our children to become more aware and involved in this is the way to go.  Using a visual presentation helps translate numbers into reality. Dick Greenberg

Patty- waves from Sandy when she went through here several years ago! Patty Da Silva, Davie, Southwest Ranches Cooper City, Plantation, Weston, REALTOR

Anna- I think it will be.  It really hits home when we have to replenish the beaches to the tune of millions of dollars. Anna Banana Kruchten - Arizona's Top Banana of Real Estate!

Alexandra- wouldn't that be nice!!!!!   Ron and Alexandra Seigel
