In 'Rare' Circumstances, Ending in Death. What?

By

Today has been an interesting day to say the least! I had early morning appointment at the eye doctor.  The nurse gave me a form to sign and agree too.  I actually read the whole thing. Are you kidding me? I am not signing that!  You see (pun intended), the doctor needed to give me a shot for a minor issue....BUT... the warnings for the medication went all the way up to possible stroke, heart attack, ending in, and in 'rare' circumstances, death.  Well....not what I was expecting at 8:00 in the morning today!!

Needless to say the Doc and I had a 'chat' and got it all straightened out. It ended up in a conversation about real estate contracts and our real estate market. Funny how real estate comes up in the strangest circumstances at times. In the end we both agreed.....lots of legal mumbo jumbo!!  It all turned out fine. I'm still alive and kicking! And in the process had a good laugh with the doc and nurse!

But... the death warning sure got my eyeballs to perk up early this morning!

Anna,

What all that mumbo jumbo means, is that regardless what you sign, they can be sued anyhow.  And there is always some legal loophole a savvy lawyer can come up with.  The best part is that it all worked out for you.  A

Hi Anna:

That WOULD be quite an eye opener. I've seen that on a couple of meds I've had to take in the past!

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS yes on medications too.  The odds are so low.  I did read a medication a nursing home prescribed for my Aunt and thank goodness I did as it saved her life.  In her case she had Parkinsons and the drug could bring yhe disease to the extreme.  I left her in the evening, went out to see her early the next morning and she had a severe reaction and was in a trance. Got her out of there that morning to her normal trusted place.  She would have died had I not done my research.

You are probably the only patient that ever read that before signing.  I would have been hesitant too.  Glad it worked out.

Probably Sharon Lee . I had about 15 minutes to wait with nothing else to do but read it.

Some disclosures on medical products can indeed be startling!  I remember several years ago, I had to have a "bleeding time" test.  The disclosure I had to read before it, made it sound like they would be taking a guillotine to my arm.  I was scared to death.  When I took my seat in the lab technician's chair, she brought the tiny little guillotine out, and went snap to my inner elbow.  I then immediately passed out, and woke thereafter on the floor, with a fan blowing on my face!  The test itself wasn't bad.  But my episode was clearly a testament to how I had digested the disclosure information.

In other words they sscared the hell out of you Myrl Jeffcoat .  That seems so unnecessary to me.  And you passed out and fell to the floor.....that's crazy.

Hi Anna- Joseph Domino 480-390-6011 makes an excellent point. Glad that everything worked out well for you.  I used to Google every prescription I'd get to read the side-effects until I realized that if I kept reading it I'd never take anything.

That is so true Kathy Streib !  Do you still read about them a little bit?

That death warning on most medications is an eye-opener, for sure, Anna. Or when you sign permission for a surgery, however, "simple." I learned a long time ago to review the more obscure items in our contracts with my clients so they understand what they are signing.

Hi Nina Hollander yes very important to make sure the client undertands the what the contract really means.  Just covered that in a CE class with students last week.

Hello Miss Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker I have not yet seen a warning that does not include, in rare circumstances, or in some cases, death.

Whatever it was ... good to know laughs were had and all is well.

I think you were wise for asking for clarification. We get a kick out of watching commercials for medicines. Quite often, the side effects sound worse than the infliction. :)

Don't you love the commercials with that disclosure listed at the end of side effects and say if you have any of them to stop taking the med immediately.  Pretty sure death stops everything immediately.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, CRB, Phoenix Broker  how did I miss this post? I totally get it. It is amazing how Realtors and Doctors need to shroud themselves with all these legal mumbo jumbo... the reality is if someone gets angry no matter what disclosures have been signed there will be Legal Action... on a side note do you see better now?:)Endre
