michaelsdig: Happy Thanksgiving Anyway... - 11/24/10 10:26 PM
Happy Thanksgiving Anyway...Tis the season - again. Bloggers wanting to spread their Holiday cheer like little Johnny was sowing his apple seeds, zap down the blogroll paste in some generic "Happy Thanksgiving" message without even reading or giving a damn about the post you just spent time feverishly articulating. YOU just received the same generic message as a thousand others. If you were lucky, it might have EVEN been addressed to YOU. Guilty as charged. Let's face it, thank gawd the holiday season rolls around once a year and you only have to put up with these shenanigans a few more … (34 comments)

michaelsdig: Simplifying Life... - 11/23/10 09:00 PM
Simplifying Life...Over the years, I have managed to collect walls of stuff in the way of entertainment. Books, music, movies and picture albums line the walls of my office adding to the clutter and my weekly chore of dusting and sorting. Just like 8 track tapes went the way of the dinosaurs, so eventually will be CD's, DVD's and books. Kindles, iPods, and other types of personal media players are vogue and downloading is quick, easy, and uses less resources. Not to mention that, digital storage makes books, music, movies and photos more easily indexed and cataloged for quicker access. Years … (46 comments)

michaelsdig: The Table... - 11/22/10 11:58 PM
The Table... Over the next few days, most folks will be in a frenzy preparing for the big meal on Thursday. We will be joining other shoppers, who like us, will be crowding the parking lots Wednesday evening picking up those last minute items overlooked on our shopping lists. We will be adding extra leaves, getting out the best linen, meticulously cleaning the heirloom china, polishing the silverware and Heaven forbid we forget the centerpiece. We go through our mental check list. Uncle Bob, will sit next to Grandma, your favorite niece will sit next to... We obsess, labor and fuss … (32 comments)

Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder... Another Sunrise, Another New Beginning
.          ~ UnknownThe dawning of a new day should bring new hope. Hope to put yesterday's defeats and shattered dreams behind us and begin anew. This morning, stand in the glowing, inspirational light of your vision rising in the east. Feel the beams caress your cheeks as they wipe away yesterday's tears. Bask in the warmth of new possibilities and muster the courage to take the first step. It doesn't matter if it is large or small, what is important is that you took the step. … (24 comments)

michaelsdig: They Are Still One of God's Creations... - 11/19/10 10:18 PM
They Are Still One of God's Creations...Through the years, I have taken tens of thousands of pictures. Like most folks, some are your typical point and shoot family affairs, some get a little more serious or creative. I have been going through the arduous task of cataloging the pictures. Like genres in music, pictures fall into themes or types based on subject matter or area. I recently stumbled on shots of squirrels that I had taken through the years. I don't know about you, but I find them such fascinating and entertaining creatures. Although they can be a real pain at … (36 comments)

michaelsdig: Good Night Active Rain - 11/19/10 12:41 PM
Good Night ActiveRain...'Tis the end of the day and my work is done; I was lucky, and got to watch the fiery sky from yet another setting sun. After all the trials, stress, pain and struggles to make it through the day; I thank God for rest, peace and relaxation. Tomorrow, the rat race starts anew; But for now, I welcome rest. So I bid you adieu.

michaelsdig: Inching Ever Closer... - 11/18/10 10:30 PM
Inching Ever Closer...Once again my ActiveRain friends, we are on the verge of making ActiveRain history. Slowly but surely, we are inching ever closer to the 2 millionth post. Who wudda thunk it?Going into the "Way-Back Machine":     Jay Thompson, was credited with writing the first "official" ActiveRain post on 25 June 2006, entitled, "Blast the Bubble." Sadly, all of Jay's posts and this piece of ActiveRain history are lost.     On 25 March 2009, Brandon Farmer of Charlotte, NC penned and submitted the 1 millionth post - "Charlotte's Positive Market Indicators". I remember watching with excited anticipation as the numbers increased … (35 comments)

Making a Statement...Body language. The more I study this field, the more I find it fascinating how twitches, hand gestures and even body movements can send subliminal messages and make more of a statement than words can ever express.

Do you think the messenger is sending a clear message? Do you think they got it? Say Good Night ActiveRain... Complete Home Inspections, Inc.The Guys with the Hats...615.661.0297 ©2010 Michael Thornton | Complete Home Inspections, Inc. | CompleteHomeInspectionsOnline.com

michaelsdig: Who Will Stop the Sheep? - 11/17/10 10:39 PM
Who Will Stop the Sheep? This really became apparent to me while standing in line at the local Post Office. I watched while folks exiting pressed past patrons lined up to enter the facility. Stepping out of line, I walked to the other door and pulled. It opened. Everyone stopped and looked. Lines shifted. As I walked back to my place in line, I wondered, who will stop the sheep? As a whole, society seems lost. We go through the motions but where are we going? Every glimmer of hope in the real estate, market is quickly squelched by the talking … (32 comments)

michaelsdig: (not so) Wordless Wednesday... - 11/16/10 09:39 PM
(not so) Wordless Wednesday...Where does time go? The last colors of autumn are waning, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner, and before we know it, we will be starting a new year. Seasonal November storms make short work of the remaining leaves still brave enough to linger this late in the season. A walk in the woods this past weekend was enough to rejuvenate the synapses and put me in the right mind to have some photo shopping fun...

michaelsdig: What Would I Do With $220 in Savings? ~ Funny You Should Ask... - 11/16/10 10:40 AM
What Would I Do With $220 in Savings? ~ Funny You Should Ask...Years ago, while studying the laws of supply and demand in college, I quickly learned this concept. Let's  face it, we all survived on that great smelling gooey crud that came to us in cardboard boxes at ungodly hours of the night...

As we got older, paperwork and paper shuffling started taking on a new meaning. Tomato and pepperoni stained term papers, although frowned upon by the prof, were often accepted a few days late. Today, everything needs to be on-time and perfect.

We all … (23 comments)

michaelsdig: Multitasking ~ ActiveRain Style... - 11/15/10 09:55 PM
Multitasking ~ ActiveRain Style...Unless you are living on another planet or still stuck on dial-up <sigh>, you have undoubtedly noticed the server slowdown and the increase in proxy errors over the past few weeks. Like me, many of you can only allot so much time to social media and ActiveRain. Then it is off to work either in or on your business. Between commenting, reading and posting, you are probably like me and earmark 1-2 hours as part of your marketing routine. 1 hour can quicky expand into 1-1/2 with slow server responses and leave you feeling frustrated. The solution? Multitask … (37 comments)

michaelsdig: Stuff... - 11/15/10 12:00 PM
Stuff...It is amazing the stuff I see in peoples homes. Stuff stacked everywhere. Stuff stacked in closets. Stuff stored in attics. Even more stuff stuffed under beds. Every nook and cranny stuffed with stuff. Have I said enuff? But what do we need with all that stuff anyway? Lord only knows, once we depart with our treasure trove, the very thing we toss will be our loss. Tomorrow we will need it. <sigh> Enuf stuff said I. Today I will get rid of stuff. And so I did. Gawsh! Just think, I haven't even finished my office or started on the garage. … (29 comments)

Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder... "Life is just a phase you're going through... you'll get over it."    ~ Unknown Just as the moon goes through its transitions from new to full and back again, so too we go through passages in our lives. As you mature, the key is to listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it truly is. Savor the highs, embrace and learn from the lows. Touch, taste, smell, hear, see your way all the way to your inner self. In the final analysis, all of life's moments are key. It's … (29 comments)

(not so) Speechless Sundae... <sigh> Slowly but surely, the sun is sinking ever lower in the southern sky. As the colors of autumn wane and the drab grays transcend over the landscape, walks in the country are still rewarding as the eye candy of autum still linger.  Although the colors are slowly going, going, going; they are not quite gone...

michaelsdig: The Good, The Bad & the Very Ugly... - 11/12/10 10:39 PM
The Good, The Bad & the Very Ugly... Real estate is a tough business - Like d-u-u-UH! Tough for the agent, tough for lenders, tough for the inspector. Not every property that undergoes a transaction is easy and pristine. Some transactions are difficult and the property is in deplorable condition.   On some, the stench caused by the aroma of an exotic blend of feces, rotting food and general house degradation, provides the cold slap of reality; what was once someone's pride and joy, has now been reduced to a blight on the landscape.  It's difficult not to get jaded when … (139 comments)

michaelsdig: Call it Quits, While You're Ahead... - 11/09/10 10:18 AM
Call it Quits, While You're Ahead... We've all had them. Days that we have been busier than a ____ ... Yeah, one of those too. Couple that with nothing that really hit the hot button to write about and there you have it - the dreaded double whammy. Kinda makes you want to rent yourself out as a vacuum, because days like this really suck and blow... Okay, now that I've got that off my chest. How about I post a picture and I will go in the corner, suck my thumb and sulk for awhile. Tomorrow will be a better … (18 comments)

michaelsdig: Everything is B&W or Is It? - 11/08/10 12:18 PM
Everything is B&W or Is It? I must have been born with a camera in my hands, or so it seems. As far back as I can remember, I have been taking pictures. Years ago, photo enhancements were painstakingly done in the dark room or with an airbrush. Nowadays, they are done quickly and easily with programs such as PhotoShop or Aperture. It is amazing what one can do with these modern tools. Given a little time, practice and imagination, there is no telling what one can do...

I must admit, I still suc at PhotoShop. One of these days, … (31 comments)

michaelsdig: Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder... - 11/07/10 09:03 PM
Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder...“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.”      ~Peter F. Drucker The constant din and clamor of our workaday world can be deafening both physically and spiritually. Only when we are able to find a place of solitude and turn off the the noise, can we reflect on our many blessings not our misfortunes. Seeing from within changes our vision. Seeing ourselves as we want to be is one of the keys to personal growth. Listen carefully to your inner thoughts...
