In our area we have snow birds and half backs. These are folks who are just tired of winter and are looking for a place to escape the relentless cold and dreary winter days. These folks start out as snow birds.
A snow bird is some one who passes through our area on their way to Florida in the winter. Florida in the winter is dry warm and breezy. Especially in the Southern part of the state. Those snow birds move and after 2 or 3 summers some of them become half backs.

Once again the Big Canoe Oktoberfest was heavily attended and a blast. The temperature was in the 70's and there way little humidity. The food was German fair with many different types of beer. So we all go off our diets for a day. Of course if you wanted to you could polka some of those calories away
The tents are set up in a really flat area. Yes we do have some flat areas here in our mountains.

The concert on the green at Big Canoe was another great success. This year there was a change as we heard the Dale Baroni swing and jazz band. This band was great and so was the weather. The turn out for this free event in Big Canoe was wonderful as well.

Today is my wedding anniversary. 11 years ago the way we view this day changed. Now we celebrate on the 12th. This is a minor impact for us compared to what others went through.
My subway stop in the morning when I worked in NYC was Cortland St , The World Trade Center. I worked about 2 blocks form the trade center. I worked in lower Manhattan for 10 years. Living in Big Canoe in the summer, in the mountains, can get kind of crowded So you always have to be on the look out for pedestrians. You can tell they are not paying attention as they line up n the side of the road.

The Big Canoe community is located in the North Georgia Mountains. Why should you consider the North Georgia Mountains in the summer ? Consider the weather. Most folks like to run to the beaches in the heat. Today I was in a Northern Atlanta suburb. When I got into my car the outside temperature registered 92 degrees. I drove back to my mountain home. As I pulled into the driveway the temperature registered 81 or 11 degrees cooler !!!!
