Fishhawk Lake-Nature is Doin' Her Thing and We Got to See It!
This fine morning, my husband and I were headed to our walking trail up on Greasy Spoon Road with the dogs in our Jeep when suddenly, to our left, right over our heads, a STUNNING, and very large Red-Tailed Hawk swooped out of the trees, clutching his breakfast; a large ground squirrel in his talons and flew right by us!!!! He was very close and we were able to see under his wingspan--a most unusual vantage point!

Of course, no photo as we've never EVER seen that before! … (14 comments)

nature at fishhawk lake: Fishhawk Lake Early Mornings - 06/03/13 02:23 PM
Getting up early was never what I enjoyed as a younger person. Now, it seems that it is a gift for my soul to slip out into the dawning of the day and be graced by the sounds of a quiet morning spent walking. It's as if the world belongs completely to me and there is nothing wrong in it. All is well.   The geese glide in a silent parade down the canal. The various morning calls of happy birds greeting the day play in my ears. The slow wind dances along the top of the placid lake, wiggling the … (31 comments)

Fishhawk Lake Realtor Walk Through Nature

In doing research for my recent blog about the Northwestern Salamander, there were many photos of frogs that popped up, too.

And since I have a closeup of the Common Tree Frog, (which I found to be very elusive, he didn’t seem so common to me!) I decided to continue my “Walk through Nature with your Fishhawk Lake Realtor”!
I may even have to make that a category on one of my other blogs…hmmmm…note to self….

So, back to my little greenie! He’s only about 2 inches long, a … (17 comments)

Things come in threes, didya ever notice that? Well, today, for me it was three wildlife sightings. City people might not have the chance to see creatures like this, even though they aren’t exotic. However, with the urban interface extending its fingers and snatching up more of Mother Nature’s holdings, it will become more prevalent for  “city folk” to engage with the kind of wildlife that we enjoy around here fairly regularly.

I was heading into “town”, a 90-minute ride into the suburbs of Portland.  I wasn’t more than a mile outside of my Fishhawk Lake community, when two adolescent deer … (15 comments)

nature at fishhawk lake: Speechless Sunday-Sunset at Fishhawk Lake - 06/24/12 10:53 AM
Sunset at Fishhawk Lake

While waiting to retire for the evening last night, I noticed the hues in the near-dark night skies.

I grabbed my new camera. The first lens wasn’t allowing me enough of the whole sky (I was using a 55-250 zoom on my Canon T3i)…so I ran in and rummaged around til I found the lens it comes with: 18-55mm. I hadn’t used it at all and was desperately trying to put it on the camera before losing the light completely.

There was mist on the water and through the trees across the … (14 comments)
