It’s National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day! March 29, 2012
Today is National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day so it’s a wonderful opportunity to stop in to one of your local businesses and show them some support. Goodness knows that the last several years have not been kind to many of our business neighbors. And they are our neighbors!
The Mom and Pop businesses are part of the foundation of our country and they continue to be big supporters of their communities. Look at your local Chambers of Commerce.... sponsors of local youth sports teams..... volunteers for community projects.
So, if you have the opportunity today, stop in and show support for your local Mom and Pop Businesses.

Good morning Kathy. I had no idea there was such a day. What a wonderful idea to help support all of our local businesses.
Morning Kathy I remember those days and the successful people and the pride in their business. Now I cannot find one of those and it is a shame. <sigh>
Good morning Kathy,
I think it's wonderful that we have a day to celebrate and support our local businesses! They are the backbone of America and we sometimes forget how important the risk they take is to making us a viable, productive nation!
Kathy, Thank you for the information. I had no idea that there was such a day.
Good morning, Kathy.....I love to buy from local small shops, especially bakeries and restaurants..... I worked for a mom and pop real estate office for many years.....small local shops should be supported by everyone....
Thank you for sharing the post with all of us.
There is no one in the mortgage or real estate business, that is not a mom and pop business. Mom and pop businesses is what will continue to bring the economy back.
Kathy ...Thanks for the reminder ...I'm going to stop in a few today! Have a great one in FL!
I love doing the Mom and Pop thing BARFF, and there is so much of that in my area. Good day indeed!
Kathy ~ I always prefer the small, local business places. A personal touch and better service!
Great idea Kathy-I always prefer to go to the locally owned single business rather than the big box stores-I'm going to visit the dry cleaner on the corner right now and then get coffee from my local cafe!
Kathy - I wasn't aware of the National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day. Thank you for the heads up. I know two Mom and Pop business's I will pop in spend some cash and tell them how they are appreciated! Have a great day in all you do.
Kathy -- I'll put my two cents in with everyone who has commented about supporting the small, locally owned and independent businesses in each of our communities. They help to make where we live and do business so much better.
Kathy, like John I was not aware of this day. I write a lot of localism posts on Mom and Pop businesses in Lewisburg WV. What would we do without them.
Kathy
I didn't know that there is a National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, thanks for sharing the information.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Sally and David- I agree and it's been a little sad to see some of them closing here.
Bob- you're right...we're all kind of like that.
Marco- good for you. I may have to go to Doc's on Swinton... great hot dogs!
Debbie- I think it's very important that we do. Think of our dry cleaners, small retail stores, etc.
James- it is. This economy has been tough on a lot of our smaller businesses.
Dorie- they're always there to support the local community functions but it's hard to compete with chain stores and big box entities, not to mention the internet.
Gita- I have no idea where some of these days come from but it's fun to find them.
Barbara- absolutely. We go to the local produce stands when we can but it's hard for them to compete.
Joe- They're how we got to where we are and to some extent maybe some tired of working for the large corporate entities will consider something smaller. I love the idea of the small business owner who really knows the community.
Rob- thank you, and you have a great day in TN!
BARFF- lucky you! What are you planning for Mickey's dinner?
Janis- we try to support the businesses in our area as much as we can.
Joanna- yea!!!! I love our local dry cleaners! And we have our local Cuban restaurant that is so good and fresh!
John- I'd bet they love it when they see your smiling face walking in the door!
Michael- I belong to a small women's networking group and most everyone there is a "mom and pop" business owner.
Rebecca- you do a great job of highlighting your local businesses!
Lou- believe it or not, there's a special something day every day of the week!
I love Mom & Pop Shops. We have a ton of them here in Manhattan. I think the only reason they survived is beacuse of space restrictions keeping the big box stores out--majority of them anyway.
Thanks for the reminder! Suggested this for a feature, it sure deserves one!
Kathy, I've never heard of this. Great way to take care of our local businesses!
Jennifer- let's keep it that way. I love the idea of walking into a business and seeing a familiar face there.
Barbara Jo- thank you and thanks for reblogging this.
Connie- where would we be without them!
Kathy - I had no clue this day even existed, I definitely support mom and pop businesses.
