Football is over and its time to get back to spending time with friends and family in a fun relaxed atmosphere. How about heading downtown for a little of "authentic" Austin this weekend at the last of the great Biergartens in Texas? Put your boots on and enjoy some good food and beer!

Scholz Garten was built by August Scholz in 1866 over an old boarding house. That was the year following the end of the Civil War. It started out as a place where the German community in and around Austin could visit before horseless carriages and moving pictures became popular. The good food and cold beer they all enjoyed is still a tradition at Scholz Garten.
This is the oldest business in TX without having ever been closed down and/or re-opened. In 1966, the 59th Texas Legislature honored Scholz Garten in House Resolution #68 “as a gathering place for Texans of discernment, taste, culture, erudition, epitomizing the finest tradition of magnificent German heritage in our State.” Scholz Garten was registered as a TX Historical Landmark in 1967.
Scholz Garten today has a large outdoor patio with picnic tables and a long bar serving drinks. The main bar area has 4 TV’s with all the different games to watch. Their food is tasty with a variety of great German food, and, of course BBQ (this is Austin after all!) along with over 20 taps of craft beer to go with whatever you choose, located right in downtown Austin.
A sample of their menu...On the German Bites menu there's Obatzda - a Bavarian cheese delicacy of Camembert, butter, cream cheese & paprika served with German bread...and...Breznknödel - pretzel dumpling with mushroom gravy. On the German Mains menu there's Wienerschnitzel - tender, thin sliced veal, panko breaded and fried served with lemon...and...Jägerschnitzel - thin sliced pork loin, panko breaded and fried served with mushroom gravy..and...German Cherrywurst - smokey Denmark local-made bratwurst with house-made curry BBQ sauce curry powder served with waffle fries and mayo.
