Who Is Your Favorite Musical Artist?
My mother raised me to love music. We did not have a TV in our mother's home. Even in the 70's my mother did not have a TV in her home. But we did have music, all kinds of music. My mother was a Latvian folk singer who knew how to play the piano, the harpsichord, the Koekle, ( a Latvian Instrument resembling a lap harp) the harp and the guitar.
She could also sing Opera and took us to many Operas and classical concerts.
I love classical music and played it while my children were in my womb and when they were infants. My mother was a hippie so we listened and she sang lots of Joan Baez, Buffy St Marie, Carole King, Peter Paul & Mary and the Mamas & the Papas. Yep, we knew Kumbaya before we new how to read! We also loved rock and roll and that is where my mother and I drifted in our tastes.
I began to listen to Soul music. All kinds of soul from James Brown to the Jackson 5, from Isaac Hayes to Santana. My favorite artist of the day and still to this day is David Ruffin who you most likely remember him as the lead singer for the Temptations' big fame days. Smokey Robinson wrote the songs and no one could impress the crowd like David could; melting your heart with 'My Girl'. You can not think or hear 'My Girl' without thinking of David. There is a movie biography movie that is played a lot these days about the Temptations from the side of Otis' perspective which does David Ruffin a huge injustice. He died from a drug overdose after being clean and out of drug rehab from a cocaine addiction for 2 years. If you watch the movie don't believe that David was some sort of loser. He was a star solo artist before the Temptations and after the Temptations in his own right. He was not treated fairly by Motown and after he left the Temptations, Motown forced him to stay with the contract and only allowed him to make on album per year as a solo artist.
Then there was DISCO for me in the 70's! AH, those were the days! I loved to disco dance and I was the queen of disco entering every contest I could find on our small island of Oahu and even smaller area of town, Waikiki. But those were the good ol' days for me and Donna Summers.
Today I listen to a lot of Mozart, Enya, soothing Jazz like Sade, Christian music like Casting Crowns and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I also love Celtic music and Hawaiian Music. One of the best pieces of music recently is Hans Zimmer's theme from Gladiator which is the posted You Tube video here. Enya sings this song as well, but in the movie Lisa Gerrard sings the theme song, Now We Are Free. I loved this song. It stirs your soul and gives you a glimpse of Heaven.
Who Is Your Favorite Artist?
Like with music, my mother raised us to be refined in art and appreciate the many art forms so there can not be any one artist that I love more than all the others. Modern day artists I absolutely love Wyland. I love dolphins and ocean life. We have one of his prints he did for Disney with Mickey and Minnie strolling along the beach with this gorgeous sunset and dolphins in the water behind them. I also admire Ansel Adams' work. I love photography and his talent with the camera is truly inspirational. Both of the above links are to their galleries so you can enjoy their art. I did have time to get permission to post their art work on my blog.
I love my mother's art. She painted the most awesome scenes of the Golden Gate bridge and many other places we have traveled to. My historic favorite is Michaelangelo's David and for the story behind the David along with how you can truly embrace, empower and utilize this story of the David to mold your own David (YOU) from a piece of scrap marble into a magnificent masterpiece.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the awesome real estate artists we have among us, marti, Lizette and Margaret. Here is Lizette's link to her art website. Check it out to see some great paintings. Here is one of Margaret's best photography combined with painting.
Who Is Your Favorite Blogger?
Most people are too chicken to answer this one. At different stages of my journey here on Active Rain there have been different favorite bloggers'. But overall, I will point out some of the great writers I have met here on the rain that can hold a candle to any best selling author. No other than our own, Andrew Lenza, Jennifer Bukaty , Jason Sardi and Lola Audu. For research on hard core real estate subjects no one can beat Lenn Harley. As I say that I imagine her rumbling in on a Harley Davidson bike to a sit down with the Senate and the House on why banks need to stay out of real estate. For entertainment value there is no one funnier than TLW and her hubby, Broker Bryant and Paul Slaybaugh. Family matters are best with Jason Crouch. The best localism posts I have ever read are written by our own Sally Cheeseman and Carole Provenzale AR's own Feng Shui consultant For staying on top of politics I go to none other than Simon Conway, who BTW, was sworn in as a new American Citizen, (the legal way).
If You Could Meet Anyone Dead Or Alive Who Would It Be?
Oh, I have a running list of who I want to meet that is alive! But let me start with who is no longer here. I would first want to meet my mommy again. She was taken from me, murdered, when I was only 18. She never got to see and hold her grandchildren. I want her to meet my children, which I know she will one day.You can read more about my mother here. I would love to meet Nestor's mom who passed away a couple of months before he and I met. You can read about that in Romancing Realtors Part 1 and Romancing Realtors Part 2. I would love to meet Jesus and Joseph Smith. There is so much I want to ask and to know. I would also like to meet my Latvian and Viking ancestors. My ten times great grandfather was a king and I would love to meet him and see how they lived. The two ladies I would like to meet are Mother Theresa and Princess Diana, both leaving this earth just hours apart.
Now for my who is alive today list. Since there is only 7 degrees of separation perhaps publishing this list will get noticed by someone who could make one of these meetings possible. I desire to meet Dr. John Demartini, Jack Canfield, Angelina Jolie, Rhonda Byrne, all of my subscribers on Active Rain and the gods of Active Rain.
What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up?
A teacher, a mommy, an actress, an author, a rock star, a dancer, a doctor, an entrepreneur, a clothes designer, a model and a speaker. I am a coach and a homeschool mom so that is teaching, I am a mom of 6 children so that is mommy, I was a teenage actress and model. I was always an entrepreneur. I had my own clothing design business and today I am a speaker and an author. So I have touched on all of those desires and dreams. Now they are taking flight on a larger and grander scale. I want to become a best selling author and take my coaching online to help larger groups of agents through teleconferencing and webinars.
What Is The Most Interesting Piece Of Trivia You Know?
I was never much into trivia. I like what Henry Ford said when he was accused of not knowing phone numbers; why do I need to know that when I can just call on someone who does? I don't clutter my mind with trivia. I have more important things to think about and dwell on.
If You Could Live In Any Point In History When Would It Be and Why?
I would love to be dancing on that disco floor again!
I have thought so many times about how cool it would be to travel back in time to the days of Jesus and the days of Cleopatra but then I think about how you could not take a hot shower every day and use all the modern conveniences. I have lived abroad even during this time and believe me, you have no idea how good you have it here in the U.S. In France, water is so expensive that you only get to take a shower once a week! That is why they douse themselves with perfume! I am so grateful that God chose this period in time to send me here.
What Is The Most Interesting Job You Ever Had?
I only had 3 jobs that were 'jobs' and those were when I was a teenager. The first job I ever had was tutoring children to read when I was just 12 years old. I was put on the summer payroll of our school district and actually got a real pay check. I loved teaching the younger kids how to read. My next job was when I was 15 and worked a the San Francisco Water Works department as a clerk where I realized I hated paperwork and filing. That is when I started modeling and loved it. I got a side job at McDonald's when I was 16 and walked off of that job before I even got my first paycheck wondering how anyone could work for someone else and makes such measly wages. That is when I vowed to embrace my entrepreneurship and capitalism and make myself whatever I wanted to be in this great country! Only in America! I have never worked for someone else since.
I have been an agent for 26 years but during that time I have done a lot of other things too, like owning and teaching in our Tae Kwon Do schools. That was also a fabulous life but in the end you are a slave to your business and I began missing sitting down to dinner with my family.
I love coaching and writing. I dream of being a best selling author and online coach traveling the world and moving back to Hawaii. I just love life and want to soak it all in. I love to learn and read.
