On this Father's Day, let's talk about mommies -- LOL. It's nesting season at the San Diego Zoo for the Pink Flamingos. Although three mommies apparently got started early and have little one-month old chicks, all the other mommies seem to be following through on staying together as a community to lay the eggs and keep them warm. When I was there a few days ago, every nest had a big bird sitting on it. Suddenly a flock of mallards dropped down out of the sky looking like one big predator, which obviously upset all the mommies. The immediately stood up and started honking loudly until they realized that it was just their friends the Mallards returning from their vacation. As you can see in the picture, almost every nest has an egg in it.

Jim - that is an amazing photo - and I do see all the nests. Amazing and thanks for sharing.
Jim, oh, that is so cool! That sure beats those plastic ones you stick in the front yard. Well, I don't stick them in the front yard...
Great shot, thank you!
