It's the end of November and tomorrow is the first of December so holiday activities and shopping are in full swing! My recommendation this week is for a restaurant rich in historic details close to downtown, sitting on a hill on Rosewood Avenue in East Austin; it's definitely worth a trip for an outstanding meal and to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday!
ROSEWOOD https://rosewoodatx.com
Rosewood Restaurant is an historic Queen Anne Victorian style home built in 1890 that overlooks East Austin entertainment district with a view of the Austin skyline. Rosewood was designed to feel open and welcome while embracing the historic details of the home with the hardwood floors, vintage moldings, shiplap accents and 10 ft. ceilings. As you move through the restaurant, the atmosphere goes from lively to a more intimate setting. There are 2 identical fireplaces that separate the front of the home from the back. For dining there's the main dining room with 12 tables, a private dining room for 12 and seating is also available at the Chef's Counter where you can watch the magic happen. If the weather is nice, you can also dine or just have a cocktail outside on the lawn and the spacious deck.
A sampling of what is on their menus - you can start with something from the Vegetables menu: Amberjack Ceviche with leche de tigre, sastuma and almond...Shrimp Jambalaya with oysters, soffrito and candied lemon or try the Grilled Oysters with parsley butter and grilled bolillo. The Fish menu has Smoked Octopus with confit potatoes and kale chimichurri...Gulf Snapper with apples, marigold mint and hazelnut mole... or Fried Catfish with thai chili butter, coleslaw and hush puppies. On the Meat menu there's Crispy Quail with cornbread dressing, dried cherries and giblet gravy...Fried Chicken with puya chile, peanut and ginger...or try House Charcuterie with pan de campo, persimmon preserves and whipped chevre. For dessert, try some Spiced Squash Cake with goat cheese mousse, pecan toffee and ginger sorbet... or a slice of Pecan Pie with bourbon whipped cream, madagascar vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate ganache...or try the Texas Sheet Cake with creamsicle ice cream and horchata whipped cream. If you want dessert but are too full - pick up a Cookie For the Road.
