alaska: Robert Swetz using commissions to build new home in Homer Alaska - 09/19/16 11:02 AM

Robert Swetz using commissions to build new home in Homer Alaska

Robert Vegas Bob Swetz is taking large percentages of his commissions from the sales of listings and sales from home buyers in Las Vegas & Henderson Nevada to build a small log home for Robert and his wife.
Vegas Bob spoke with his wife again today about where she would like to build a summer retirement home and once again her answer was on the acreage we bought 2 years ago in Homer Alaska.
So is there anyone out there that is interested in selling their home in Las Vegas or Henderson?
Or is there anyone … (11 comments)

alaska: Robert Swetz would love to have a pilots license in Alaska - 09/15/16 12:08 PM

Beluga Lake Homer Alaska by Robert Swetz 9/1/2016

Robert Swetz would love to have a pilots license in Alaska

With all the airplanes in the state of Alaska and all the pilots that use their airplanes for business and tour guides and pleasure, Vegas Bob would love to have a pilots license.
It is so much easier to obtain a pilots license in Alaska vs in The Lower 48 so the thought has crossed Vegas Bob's mind many times.
With all the vast land of Alaska it would be totally amazing to be able to fly to areas that cars and boats can't travel to.

A mirror reflection of my last visit to Alaska by Robert Swetz

Here are some clouds and trees reflecting on a small lake on my last visit to Alaska during a wonderful beautiful day in The Last Frontier.
Robert 'Vegas Bob" Swetz always looks forward to the next day he will be able to be with his family and the beauty that Alaska has to offer.
Robert Swetz has traveled the United States and many parts of the world and has yet to find a place as beautiful as Alaska.
The search will continue through out my life searching for a place that may match and or … (30 comments)

Bald Eagles from Homer Alaska by Robert Swetz

The day after fishing for halibut we took a drive once again out to Homer Spit to pick up our fish that had been processed and frozen.
While we we driving back there were bald eagles every where perched up on telephone poles and the tops of buildings. I pulled over the car and quietly grabbed my camera and rolled down the window to capture this photo of two bald eagles. Now these eagles might not look very big in the photo but these two birds were HUGE.
Later on in the … (23 comments)

Waiting for that "Perfect Moment in Time" by Robert Swetz

As photographers we are always looking for that "Perfect Moment in Time"
That one great shot. The one photograph that stands out better than all the rest. The photograph where everyone says "wow what a great shot" ...
Well as a photographer we are always searching for that "Perfect Moment in Time", the one photograph that we feel is the best of the best!
But what I have found over the many years as a photographer is some of our most liked photographs by others are not our perfect shots.

alaska: Happy Labor Day from Homer Alaska and do you know Debra Leisek? - 09/05/16 02:30 AM

Homer Alaska by Robert Swetz 8/29/2016

Happy Labor Day from Homer Alaska

Hello everyone ... Vegas Bob and family just want to wish everyone a wonderful Labor Day!
I have been traveling all through Alaska now for the last 2 years from Homer, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Hope, Wasilla, Palmer, Seward, Kenai, Girdwood and other towns and one of my favorite places in Alaska is HOMER because it's at the end of the road. Once you get to the end of Homer Spit there is really no further you can drive except about 5 miles across the ridge over looking Homer where this photo (above) was taken … (25 comments)

alaska: Every time Robert Swetz visits Alaska he goes through a transition - 09/04/16 10:38 AM
Every time Robert Swetz visits Alaska he goes through a transition

Robert Vegas Bob Swetz has been visiting Alaska off and on for 2 years now! Sometimes for 1 week, 2 weeks, 2-3-4 and even 5 months during this time.
There seems to be something going on between myself and Alaska that I can't grasp. When I'm in Alaska it's so different than the Lower 48, more relaxed and something that creates some change within my mind.
There is nothing wrong with this change, I like it and these types of thoughts really don't seem to cross my mind unless I visit Alaska.
Last year I … (18 comments)

alaska: Clouds over Turnagain Arm Alaska by Robert Swetz - 09/01/16 10:46 AM
Clouds over Turnagain Arm Alaska by Robert Swetz

Turnagain Arm is located south of Anchorage and is located on the northwestern part of the Gulf of Alaska.
When driving south of Anchorage towards Girdwood, Seward, Hope, Homer, Soldotna and Kenai Alaska there are large mountain ranges and great views for taking photographs.
I have driven around the Turnagain Arm over 20 different times in the last 2 years while staying in Alaska and it seems like every time I drive it there are different clouds, shadows which make for new photos each time.
This wonderful cloud photo was taken early Saturday morning 8/27/2016 on our … (9 comments)

alaska: Fishhook Creek north of Wasilla south of Hatcher Pass Alaska - 08/31/16 03:11 PM
Fishhook Creek north of Wasilla south of Hatcher Pass Alaska

Fishhook Creek that runs north of the town of Wasilla Alaska is a very beautiful creek that cuts through the rock and canyon south of Hatcher Pass.
Here is a colorful photograph of Fishook Creek just before sunset and believe it or not this creek can be panned for gold. Many creeks around the mountains can be panned for gold, I have not done it myself but maybe some day.
We go to Hatcher Pass quite often when I am visiting Alaska, during the winters the mountains are covered with snow and during the … (7 comments)

Alaska Bob loves Alaska but Vegas Bob is disappointed with high prices

For over 2 years now Alaska Bob has been visiting the beautiful state of Alaska ... The Last Frontier
Hiking, fishing, taking photographs, videos and even searching real estate properties in a very beautiful part of the world.
Although Alaska has it's good points of beauty and wild life, Alaska is extremely expensive, overpriced in so many ways.
As we have been driving around enjoying the beauty The Last Frontier had to offer, we would stop at gas stations along the way for a beverages, snacks, etc.
Now prices at gas stations compared to grocery … (13 comments)

alaska: Beautiful Seward Alaska - 08/30/16 01:24 AM

Beautiful Seward Alaska

Here is a colorful photo of a small section of the bay and marina in Seward Alaska.
We drove down from Homer yesterday and spent some time walking around the downtown area and also hiking around Exit Glacier.
Robert Vegas Bob Swetz has been coming back to visit Seward Alaska since his very first visit to Alaska back in 2001.
Seward is a very interesting place and most of the large cruise ships that visit Alaska from Seattle and many foreign countries port in Seward and tourists will then take charter buses to Anchorage, Denali National Park, Fairbanks and more.

Vegas Bob comes across deadly lawn display for some!

As Vegas Bob and his wife were driving around Wasilla Alaska they stumbled across the strangest lawn display ornament that I have ever seen!
At first I missed the coffin laying on the lawn of someone's home as we were driving by. As I drove by my wife Lin said did you see that and I said what?
She said there is a casket in the front yard of the home we just drove by, and at first I said ya right. So I had to see it for myself so I turned around and … (19 comments)

Vegas Bob finally enjoys a day of sunshine in Alaska

Finally Vegas Bob aka Robert Swetz and his wife Lin spent the day together that was filled with sunshine and beauty.
Vegas Bob took many great photographs with his new camera around Palmer, Lake Lucile and some other lakes around Wasilla Alaska.
This photograph below is a mirror reflection of a chain of lakes only minutes north of Wasilla.
Please note: This photo was taken with Robert Swetz's Apple 6+ and he backed up this photo along with many others with his new Canon that he purchased for his trip to Alaska

Vegas Bob and family praying for sunshine in Alaska

Robert Vegas Bob Swetz was staying in Alaska from November 2015 to May 2016 so he had more than enough time to take photographs of snow, drissle and rain.
So now still being August and actually still summer Vegas Bob and family are hoping and praying for sunshine so we can play, fish and take photographs with some (Blue) color in the sky.
Vegas Bob has had plenty of sunshine living in California but the "Locals" in Alaska are getting tired of rain and would like some sunshine to brighten up their days.
Here is yet … (19 comments)

alaska: Sun Chants by Vegas Bob to bring sunshine to Alaska - 08/25/16 05:20 AM

Sun Chants by Vegas Bob to bring sunshine to Alaska

As you may know from my previous posts before this one, Vegas Bob is in Alaska now and it's been raining 95% of the time for around one month now!
It's like really how much water do they really need up in Alaska?
The state of California is burning up from all the fires and Alaska is drenched in water ...
And if Vegas Bob could find a way to bring all this moisture from Alaska to the state of California he would be a Billionare ;o)
Here is a wonderful colorful photo of the sun … (21 comments)

alaska: Vegas Bob is in Alaska Now ;o) - 08/25/16 02:35 AM
Vegas Bob is in Alaska Now

It's been raining everyday now in Alaska for over 3 weeks and everything is so GREEN, so much different than the desert backdrop in Las Vegas and it the burning hills of California.
Vegas Bob will be picking up his (new) camera today in Anchorage so it better clear up soon because Vegas Bob won't put up with all this rain.
Stay tuned for more posts of Vegas Bob's adventures and if he has a laptop Vegas Bob will be posting a special write about his visit to Myanmar (Burma), the temples that he photographed several years ago … (17 comments)
