seattle: Seattle skies are still the bluest to me. - 02/17/17 04:10 PM
Funny how times change... It seems everyone is talking about Seattle these days, but back in 1968 us locals were enamored with a new television series, Here Comes the Brides. It was a story of the lonely lumberjack pioneer days of the 1860s around Elliott Bay and the Bolt Brother’s scheme to recruit available women from New Bedford, Massachusetts to settle here and marry.
I had to refresh my memory and did a little digging to rediscover the cast included Joan Blondell, Bobby Sherman, and David Soul. I don’t remember the series much except for the fact it was totally corny, but … (23 comments)

seattle: Seattle rockets glare and boom on the July 4th. - 07/06/16 03:08 AM
I headed up to the Eastlake neighborhood in Seattle the evening of July 4th to watch the fireworks on Lake Union. We have an escrow branch there with a fabulous view of the Seattle Skyline (from the north), the Space Needle, and look west over Lake Union at Queen Anne Hill, the Aurora Bridge, and on clear days we enjoy views of the magnificent Olympic Mountains on the peninsula.
The sky was overcast, but fortunately the cloud cover was high. For me, the weather was perfect, just a gentle breeze from the west and a comfortable cool. This is just a share, … (12 comments)

Friday's Fotos: Night Walk...
I attended a fabulous chocolate event on Wednesday, September 30th with my coworker/friend Barbie Van Horn... (more about that in a post coming soon) It was a beautiful early Autumn evening in Seattle. I didn’t see the supermoon, but I enjoyed walking the South Lake Union neighborhood back to my car a little after 9pm.
It still amazes me to this day how much transformation this old neighborhood has gone through over the past couple of years. The redevelopment was the brainchild of Paul Allen and his Vulcan Inc. Even today there are several properties under construction. It’s like … (23 comments)

seattle: Catching light... - 09/06/15 12:43 AM
We had a meeting in the University Village, Seattle. September is shaping up to be a very interesting month and the Fall calendar is filling up fast. This morning Barbie Van Horn and I were doing a last walk through for our Mobile Communications Boot Camp clock hour class, aka #mobilecomcamp ... There’s always new tweaks, updates, and changes to embrace in social media marketing.
As we canvassed the urban village I had to stop at one of my favorite stores, Ravenna Gardens, and take in their end of summer and fall flowers. They had a wonderful selection of Gerbera, Supreme Elegance … (24 comments)

seattle: Seattle's Montlake Bridge. - 07/11/15 03:03 AM
I’m on my way back to the south end via Montlake Boulevard from the University Village. At Husky Stadium the traffic stops. It’s 12:30 pm and the Montlake Bridge is up to let a few sailboats pass along the Washington Ship Canal to Lake Washington.
This old bascule bridge spans the Montlake Cut and it’s the most easterly draw bridge of 4 along the ship canal that connects Puget Sound via Lake Union to Lake Washington. The bridge opened in 1925 and was designed by Carl Gould, one of the early architects of the University of Washington.
The latest stats I can find … (10 comments)

seattle: Seattle's first downtown. - 06/26/15 04:10 AM
I love driving down 1st Avenue through Seattle. I’m entering Pioneer Square as I cross Columbia Street and look up to my left to see one of my favorite icons of the city, the Smith Tower. This is the oldest skyscraper and neighborhood in downtown Seattle.
In those very early days Seattle became a booming timber town thanks to Henry Yesler who built the first (steam powered) sawmill in the area in 1853 at the end of Mill Street (now Yesler Way) on Elliott Bay. Yesler Way served many purposes back then and probably foremost, the sawmill was the first center of … (10 comments)

seattle: Born to be Wild. - 05/07/15 01:37 PM
Throwback Thursdays: Born to be Wild...Wild probably isn’t the first thing one conjures up in their mind when they see an accordion. But hey, this was the 1950s...
Like father, like son, I had one of these strapped to me at @ 3 years old. I’m 4 here. I played the accordion into my teens. My dad was a little disappointed when I took up the guitar and embraced rock & roll. That’s when the wild side started to show up, around 1963.
Before the English Invasion, before Grunge, Psychedelic, Experimental Rock, or Heavy Metal we had Paul Revere and the Raiders, The … (18 comments)

seattle: Oh My! The view from here! - 05/06/15 07:47 AM
This is one of those homes you see sitting way up on top of the Mt Baker Ridge when you’re driving across Lake Washington on the I-90 Floating Bridge from the Eastside.
I’m driving south today through the Leschi neighborhood on 31st Ave S on the very crest of the Ridge. Today the sky is blue and I just had to stop a few times to enjoy it. I love the views from here! These homes have an absolutely amazing 180 degree view eastward and most can see NE to Mt Baker all the way SE to Mt Rainier. I drive this … (24 comments)

Friday's Fotos: Once upon a time there was this smiling goat...
So we're at the University Village in Seattle for #mobilecomcamp when I see these guys outside the Fireworks Store. I'm well caffinated and in a playful mood and the first thing that pops into my head (being the blogger I am and alway's on the lookout for material) is...
Once upon a time there was this smiling goat, a huge colorful rooster, and a cute little bulldog all gathered together on the village plaza... "I just know there's a story here!" :O) But I better put my focus back on the … (29 comments)

To me, and it's my own personal belief, that the heart and soul of real estate marketing is all about and always will be about lifestyle and community. I know and I am so very fond of so many of you here on Activerain. So many of you inspire me as I do the dance we all do trying to make every second and minute of the day productive and work in our daily lives. I appreciate how many of you I know that hold such high values and always always always keep to a higher … (32 comments)
