I know there are various attitudes towards Zestimates. Some think they are too low, some think they are too high, and believe it or not, some of you actually think they are pretty close (and yes, I know what the rest of you think...).

I am so excited to announce that today the Video Training Centerlaunched on Zillow! There are a core group of questions we frequently get, and now we have a resource that answers them in the form of short videos.
Along with FAQs, there are videos that walk through some of the most used marketing tools and resources on the site.

I recently attended a trade show where the two most popular questions at the Zillow booth were 1) Where do you get your data and 2) How accurate are your Zestimates?
Data - We get data from a number of sources, but the most popular place is from county records. In some counties this is great, in others (especially in non-disclosure states) the data is very weak and we have to turn elsewhere. Of particular note to Agents- we also get data from listing feeds. Whenever I read a post about Zillow there are inevitability comments that sound like something from Goldilocksand The Three Bears fairy tail- My Zestimate is too high, My Zestimate is too low, My Zestimate is just right....
My answer has always been the same, it is simply a starting point and is no way an appraisal. It is something that attracts users to the site and creates a massive and dynamic audience for you then to market to, whether that be posting your listings for free or participating in a Discussion.

I often get asked how investors can use Zillow. With a database of over 70 million homes, one of the best ways to use the site is to evaluate trends. Each quarter Zillow organizes this data and releases it at a link that can be found at the very bottom on the Zillow home page. First of all, what is a Zestimate?
A Zestimate is an estimated market value of a home on Zillow.com. We have calculated Zestimates on every house back in history as far as we could get data.
