'Tis the season for carpenter bee infestation.
This may be a problem where you live.  It certainly is here.
Carpenter bees!  They are what they sound like - they work on wood.
They carve holes and tunnels into wood surfaces, lay eggs, and keep going.
They seem to pick out a house, or an area of a house, and go at it.
If you see stains such as the one in the photo to the right, you have a carpenter bee infestation!
Just above that stain is a small, round hole in the wood, about the diameter of your pinky.

How do you know when you have a carpenter bee infestation, and what should you do?
Do you see the stain on the aluminum siding?
That is a sure sign there was a carpenter bee infestation in the past.
It might be current and active.
Sometimes I see 10 or 20 of these stains all along the underside of the fascia board along a roof.
These stains are created by carpenter bee spit and vomit.
If you clean it off and smell your rag, it smells like honey!

This may not be the problem nation wide that it is here, but I suspect it is.  We have carpenter bees and infestations are common.  It seems they pick out a house in a neighborhood and go after it!  They look very much like bumble bees, but have a sharp hind end and when they fly they stay stationary at times as they investigate a piece of wood for habitation.  Then they quickly dart away to stop at another spot to look at.
