marketing luxury real estate: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: A Crabby Companion on the Beach - 05/11/12 02:29 PM

As we were enjoying the low tide at the Sandyland Beach in Carpinteria, we noticed this little guy in a hurry.  He kept trying to elude my curiosity by hiding in seaweed and trying to wait it out.  Being even more patient, I was able to get a photo of him before he scampered on his merry way...we see a lot of these on the rocks and rushing around hiding from all the birds!
Enjoy your weekend, Cheers Ron & Alexandra

This lovely showy plant known as Sweet Yellow Broom is known for its abundance of bright yellow and sweetly fragrant flowers.  It trives in full sun and requires minimal watering. "Xeriscape refers to landscaping and gardening in ways that reduce or eliminate the need for supplemental water from irrigation" according to Wikipedia.  Its maximum height ranges between 6-8ft and  5-6 ft widte.  It blooms in late winter or early spring through mid summer. It is a fast growing pant great in corners or as a hedge, and is wonderful on a hillside.  On a gloomy or sunny day, it … (8 comments)

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: The Luxury of Roadside Delight: Wordless Wednesday - 05/08/12 05:12 PM

As we were getting out of the car this morning, to buy an almond croissant at Cafe Luna in Summerland, I spotted this California poppy that had planted itself in the perfect spot, and in perfect juxtaposition with the purple statice, and the black street lamp behind it.  Nature is a luxury, you never know when you will spot something wonderful and worth a photo!
Happy Wednesday, Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

After a glorious sunny weekend, we have started the week off with sporadic rain showers, and today with drizzly moments.  As we were off on errands, I noticed rows of jacarandas starting to bloom and they lit up the grey skies.  In another week or two, we will be treated to even more of this glorious blue/purple blooms as the trees fill out with leaves and the flowers open.
Happy Tuesday, Happy May Day! Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

marketing luxury real estate: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Resting on your Laurels or Increasing Your Visibility? - 04/23/12 07:09 AM

As a luxury real estate marketing professional, when you are already the market leader maintaining your top-of-mind status should be your focus. Although, resting on your laurels (your achievements) is tempting, it is an invitation for your challenger to seize market share from you. Therefore, continuously increasing your visibility is very important.  Being active in your community and championing a good cause is one way of doing this.  Here is an example.
Ralph Lauren is the quintessential American clothing lifestyle brand.  It is also a world class brand recognized on every continent. One could ask, “Why is Ralph Lauren bothering … (10 comments)

marketing luxury real estate: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Scilla You? Speechless Sunday - 04/22/12 03:24 AM

As I was buying gladiolas for the house, I spotted these flowers that looked like they had been created for a science fiction movie.  It left me speechless for a moment. After some search I found out they are scillas.  They are  bulbs  related to hyacinths.  They looked great anchoring my red and purple glads. This purple scilla is common to Mediterranean climates such as ours in Santa Barbara.
Happy Sunday, Happy Earth Day!  Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

marketing luxury real estate: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Impressions of Costa Rica - 04/17/12 07:02 AM

We were fortunate to be invited to consult on the local and international marketing of a beautiful luxury residential development project on the east side of San Jose, in the Central Valley of Costa Rica.  From the Central Valley it is an hour to an hour and a half drive to either the Caribbean/ Atlantic coast or the Pacific coast.  The mild climate is consistently in the low 80’s with relatively low humidity.
Our experience in meeting our clients and the various people we were introduced to was nothing less than enchanting.  When discussing the various aspects of the … (10 comments)

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: The Danger of Ignoring Trends - Part 3 - 09/14/11 05:12 PM

Perhaps the most important business skill that you can cultivate as a luxury real estate marketing professional is listening.  This does not only mean giving your clients your full attention in order to understand their needs.  It also means listening to your own intuition and paying attention to the trends in the marketplace.  The danger of ignoring your client’s needs, your own intuition and market trends as a market leader can leave you vulnerable to sharply focused challengers.
One of the most dangerous liabilities that a market leader can have is the inability or unwillingness to … (14 comments)

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estat Marketing: Is it Chanel No. 5 or Ylang -Ylang? - 07/09/11 05:44 AM

Our client's garden in Ocean Reef has many lovely trees.  One of them is referred to as the Chanel #5 tree.  The tree pictured above is Ylang-ylang, aka cananga odorata.  The oil derived from its flowers is used in the making of Chanel No 5.

According to the French Government, a bottle of Chanel No, 5 is sold every 30 seconds.  This was the first perfume launched by Coco Chanel.  Some experts consider it, the world's most famous perfume.
We stood under the Ylang-ylang tree and inhaled its fragrance, it was great, and upon returning home, i saw one … (13 comments)

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: The Luxury of Taking A Moment Part 3 - 06/12/11 07:54 AM

Sometimes taking a moment means focusing on nature and appreciating its splendor.  We benefit from srtinging these moments in our day, as they uplift us.  We loved how the starfish was drapped, and we wondered whether this creature was taking a moment to observe us.

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: So, You Want to Be a Market Leader-Part 6 - 06/08/11 06:36 PM

The Latest iCloud Technology- Courtesy of Apple
In our previous post (Part 5) of our series entitled, So You Want to Be a Market Leader, we covered one of the key vulnerabilities that luxury real estate market leaders tend to exhibit: losing focus.  In this post we cover the other key vulnerabilities: Being complacent and being “tech-challenged”.   If you want to overtake the incumbent market leader, rather than identifying an uncontested market niche that you can dominate, you need to assess your opponent’s weakest link and wage an all-out battle that is 100% concentrated on one of these three … (11 comments)

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: So, You Want to Be a Market Leader-Part 5 - 06/07/11 06:09 PM

In the realm of marketing luxury real estate, we have noticed some patterns of vulnerabilities among market leaders that represent opportunities for challengers.  If they do have a chink in their armor it usually comes down to this: 1) they lose their focus; 2) they get complacent, or; 3) they lag behind technologically.
If you want to overtake the incumbent market leader, rather than identifying an uncontested market niche that you can dominate, you need to assess your opponent’s weakest link and wage an all-out battle that is 100% concentrated on one of these specific vulnerabilities.

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: The Luxury of Eating Yourselff To Success! - 06/04/11 06:53 AM

We love exploring the cuisines of all nations.  One of the fundamental things we have in common with every nation is food and the preparation thereof. We have made friends world wide because of our love of all cuisines, and also made deals in our real estate practice.  On one occasion, we met a man from Lebanon who was lamenting that he could not find "bulgur" (cracked wheat, an essential ingredient for Middle Easten cooking) and his wife was beside herself.
Having lived in Beirut, Lebanon, the first few years of my life, I knew exactly what he was talking … (14 comments)

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: The Luxury of Impeccable Communication - 06/03/11 06:57 AM

The Communication Palace in Madrid, Spain
One of the most important aspects of marketing luxury real estate is to have impeccable communication skills, and to adopt a system that tracks all the loose ends that need to be followed up on.  Since real estate transactions are usually an emotional journey, communication is the soothing balm that keeps everyone together and usually guarantees a happy ending for all parties concerned. Anxiety is minimized even when you have to communicate that there is "no news."
We have recently implemented a central on line communication system so that we can all have access … (12 comments)

See Part 1 and Part 2 of this blog series, So You Want to Be a Market Leader
When you think of the word strategy what comes to mind?  In the context of marketing luxury real estate, or any product or service, strategy ONLY applies to gaining or sustaining market leadership.  It is just for incumbent market leaders who want to hold on to the #1 position and those who want to challenge the incumbent.   More succinctly, it is only about being  #1 or #2 in mindshare and in market share within any given marketplace or niche therein.

marketing luxury real estate: Luxury Real Estate Marketing: Did You Take A Spring Break? - 05/01/11 06:52 PM

Sunday afternoon, when we took our walk on the beach, we came upon this sign.  It was lovingly created by someone who enjoyed their spring break.  Take a note of the blue stones that this individual(s) chose to make this heart.  For us it was a reminder to spend some time being carefree and playing, like we did when we were in college.  All too soon, we grow up and get serious.
