elizabeth weintraub: Land Park Home to be Featured on H&G TV's HOUSE HUNTERS - 07/20/08 05:47 AM
I know I said in the past that I would never go on the cable TV show House Hunters, but a few weeks ago I found myself eating those words. Hey, sometimes it happens that we change our minds -- it's a woman's prerogative. After all, I reasoned, I've done a few TV shows, and they are actually kind of fun. Besides, I am certain I will most likely bring a warped sense of humor to the show. Mark my words, I will NOT walk into the kitchen waving my arms to pronounce that "This is the kitchen." Besides, the kitchen … (23 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: Land Park Homes - Photos, Descriptions and Recent Market Values - 07/20/08 01:59 AM

The tree-lined streets of Land Park today rose from their dusty Gold Rush days, founded by names easily recognized in Land Park such as Swanston, Marshall, Cavanaugh, Caruthers, Wright and Kimbrough. Land south of the Zoo was first developed by John Sutter and known as Sutterville. Many landmarks such as the Sutterville Brewery, Riverside Swimming Baths, Edmonds Field and The Land Park Plunge have long ago been demolished. William Land (1837-1911) gave the 166-acre park to the city in 1926.
Here are 26 photos of Land Park homes and our surrounding landmarks.

elizabeth weintraub: Are You Monitoring Your Web Site for Statistics? - 07/17/08 02:32 AM
I don't care what business you are in -- if you're not online, you're missing the boat. If you're not monitoring your web site, you're also missing the boat.
You can sign up for very inexpensive services that will return statistics to you. For example, the service I subscribe to will tell me any number of things, among them:
Where my visitors originate -- from what city or state The ISP of my visitors Whether they are a first-time visitor or a return visitor If they are return visitors, the other pages and times they visited What kind of browser they … (29 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: Weintraub's Foreclosure Video - 07/07/08 03:21 AM
Home buyers who want a good deal in real estate invariably think first about pursuing foreclosures. Probably because right now there are so many REOs on the market. Buyers have this picture in their mind of a cute little house, surrounded by a white picket fence that is owned by a widowed mom who fell on hard times, but that scenario is generally far from reality.
To find out more about foreclosures, watch my video about How Foreclosures Work. Warning: some of the content may shock you.

elizabeth weintraub: Tips for a Successful Open House -- Weintraub's 4th Video - 07/03/08 01:39 AM
I realize there are many agents who do not like to hold open houses. In some ways, I suspect it's because they might not be very good at them.  Because to hold a good open house, you've got to interact with people, shake hands, talk with them, hand out information, answer questions and, believe it or not, there are a lot of people in real estate who aren't gregarious. Other agents don't want to give up a Sunday afternoon when they could spend it with family. But I LOVE open houses and at least 20% of my listings sell during open … (9 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: My First Video - - It's About Staging a Home on Homebuying at About.com - 06/13/08 01:55 AM
The powers-that-be at the New York Times-owned About.com decided I should be a video star! Well, I don't know about the star part, but I filmed a bunch of videos for my homebuying site at About.com in February, and the first one was published two days ago. Of course, I talk too fast -- people think I am from New York instead of hailing from Minnesota.
And I look a bazillion years old because I didn't have a makeup artist or hairdresser to fix me up. OK, I am a bazillion years old, but it doesn't mean I want to appear … (19 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: If I Opened My Mouth and No Sound Came Out Did I Speak? - 01/26/08 10:29 AM
While I am flattered to be MeMe'd again, this time by the non-French speaking Michelle Casey, it is true that my first MeMe is not in the alphabetical list, which is likely why I'm being tapped a second time.
In early December, I wrote a MeMe, which is floating around somewhere, so I probably have very little to add to that.
Real Estate and Computers in 1988
Let's see, I bought my first computer in 1988, a 40-lb portable to replace the free computer I had been given several years earlier. I think it was an IBM XT, and it used 5 1/4-inch … (18 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: Meme'd in Sacramento, California - 12/07/07 05:18 AM
I thought if I was relatively quiet, I could slip past this practice of being meme'd, but noooo, Natalie Langford managed to creep up and tap my shoulder. She accomplished this by directing my attention away from my computer, pointing into the distance and exclaiming, "Look, two men kissing!" When I wasn't paying attention, whammo, meme'd.
OK, five things most people don't know, right? I hardly know where to begin and doubt anybody really wants to know this stuff . . . so, Natalie, you may be sorry.
Well, let me introduce myself first. I moved back to California in October of 2002, … (19 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: Sacramento and Tri-County Region Real Estate Market Update - 10/16/07 04:25 AM
The September numbers for Trendgraphix have been released today by Lyon Real Estate. Inventory fell in the month of September by 1% over August of 2007. However, inventory has increased 8% in year-over-year same-month statistics. In the month of September, there were 15,106 homes for sale.
Mike Lyon points out an interesting fact. in January of this year, there were fewer than 100 homes in the tri-county region on the market priced under $200,000. Nine months later, that number has moved to 861 homes priced under $200,000, with 90% of that inventory located in Sacramento.
As I stated earlier this fall, investors … (0 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: Have You Ever Wiped Out Your Web Site? - 09/23/07 04:08 PM
If you've ever clicked the wrong button or had a power failure when working on your Web site, come over and crawl into a cry-fest with me. Yesterday morning I was working on my site, updating, adding a few links, and I was on the wrong page by mistake. When I clicked "submit," it wiped out my Web site. In its entirety.
If that happened to you, how would you feel?
At first, I was in shock. I couldn't believe I had done such a stupid thing.
After reality set in, I was in tears. By the time my husband found me, I was … (6 comments)

elizabeth weintraub: How Many Pot Houses Are in Sacramento? - 09/23/07 02:09 AM
Something tells me that the recent Sacramento pot house busts are only the tip of the iceberg -- there are probably hundreds of other illegal pot operations throughout Sacramento, Placer, Yolo and El Dorado Counties that the police departments have yet to discover. Suburbia hides this sort of stuff much easier than the city. Vans can pull quietly into attached garages, unload growing supplies and cart them into the house without any neighbors batting an eye because nobody sees them. Lots of suburban neighbors keep to themselves. There is less foot traffic in suburban communities as well. But the fact that … (4 comments)
