brandon: How Loud Does Your Cat Purr? - 03/31/11 04:35 AM
There's this cat in London who purrs as loud as a lawnmower. His name is Smokey. This cat purrs at 73 to 80 decibels. depending on which news report you read. If I had a cat like that, I'd kick him out of bed. Heck, I'd banish him to the garage. Or at the very least, I'd make sure I never petted him unless I wore earplugs.
Like all short sales are different, all cats purr differently. My cat who died last December, Brandon, had a very loud purr. He used to sit on the bench near me at the breakfast … (10 comments)

brandon: A Ragdoll Kitten Will Come Home to Land Park - 01/09/11 02:40 AM
I don't know if we ever fully recover after a death of someone we love, but we do find ways to manage that empty spot in our lives. The pain gets easier to bear and it dissolves into happier memories of more pleasant times. For example, I can now talk more openly about the death of my cat, Brandon, without big fat tears rolling down my cheeks, and that's definite progress.
In fact, it's been more than a month now since I said goodbye to Brandon. So, I am proud of myself that my emotional state is such that I am … (10 comments)

brandon: Cholesterol and Coffee and Chocolate Chip Cookies - 01/07/11 02:46 AM
My challenge this morning is to write a blog in 15 minutes before I run off to the doctor for bloodwork. Just like how my older cat, Brandon, used to get bloodwork done every year -- probably because he couldn't talk -- so do I. They want to know my cholesterol level, primarily; which, thanks to cholesterol-lowering statins, has been respectably below 200 for a while.
At one point, my doctor told me that if I were a man, she'd fear I was headed for a heart attack because my cholesterol was almost 300. It's a hereditary thing with me, not … (13 comments)

brandon: When You Have to Say Goodbye - 12/08/10 01:19 AM
It looks like today I am putting my cat to sleep. That's such a strange way of putting it, but it beats saying we're putting him out of his misery by injecting him with a chemical that will kill him. It sounds like it's so peaceful and normal, an everyday event. Just going to bed. Just a little nap. Except, he will never wake up again.
I have never been in this position, but I know other people who have and how hard it can be. All of my other cats -- and I've always shared my life with cats -- … (17 comments)

brandon: Google Docs is a Great Way to Publish Daily Updates on Short Sales to Your Website - 11/11/09 12:35 AM
My husband is a savvy shopper, always looking for bargains and buying stuff on sale. Thank goodness he's not into those big discount chains and coming home with armloads of toilet paper. I've been to homes where the bathtub was the only place left to stash an oversupply of toilet paper. But he does tend to buy larger quantities of an item when it's on sale.
He was thrilled when he discovered that Target over on Broadway had Fancy Feast on sale. Our older cat, Brandon, loves Fancy Feast canned cat food. Turkey and Giblets. Maybe he's a Thanksgiving cat at … (44 comments)

brandon: Here are Before and After Photos of Bathing the Cat, and How I Survived the Ordeal - 10/12/09 02:34 AM
If you've never bathed a cat, you're missing out on one of life's most treasured moments: a time to bond with your cat. Oh, who am I kidding? It's really a matter of who is in control -- you or the cat? Make no mistake about it, it's the cat. Many years ago, I used to turn on the shower, toss the cat into the bathtub and quickly slam the door. But that method didn't work very well, so I don't recommend it.The easiest way to bathe your cat is to take the cat to a groomer or the vet, and pay … (23 comments)

brandon: My New Land Park Driveway - Part 2 - 09/24/08 06:39 AM

The cement crew finished up half the driveway last night. The tool you see this guy using is called a joiner. It has a slot in the center that grooves the cement while the top of the tool smooths the joint. We discovered a clean-out for the sewer line below the former brick patio, which is why you see a hole. They placed a bucket shaped object over the clean-out to protect it and will put a grate on top when it is finished. It's a good thing I asked them to investigate what I thought was a French drain.
