active rain community: Active Rain - Big, Successful, but losing a bit of that neighborly feel! - 12/18/11 11:58 AM
I'm amazed that we're now well over 210,000 members...or "so called members."  Think about it....110,000, represents a pretty big sized city!  It's something to be proud of.  But I don't want to be like New York, L.A. or Chicago where there are millions of people, but no comraderie.  No, I'd rather remain like a Green Bay, where the entire town comes out to see and cheer on the Green Bay Packers.
You see, now there are so many people here on A.R. that we may just be loosing that sense of community.  Here are a couple of things that concern me … (33 comments)

active rain community: Bright Lights, Big City - Active Rain at 145,000+ - 04/30/09 02:17 PM
So now we're at 145,000+ members on Active Rain.  145,000 people.  That's no small village.  I did a population search and we're now somewhere between the size of Kansas City, Kansas and Vancouver, Washington.  Interspersed between those cities sit Rockford, Illinois, Oceanside, California, Springfield, Missouri and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  For fun, I'll throw in Dayton Ohio too!
Needless to say, these are sizeable cities.  I think that there's a lot of anonimity in those cities....in those numbers.  When I first joined the rain, I believe that I was in a community of less than 25,000 people.  I like small communities.  There's … (12 comments)

active rain community: Is it about a "Client" or is it about Yourself? - 04/08/09 01:36 AM
I had a client who wanted to buy a home but he was in bankruptcy.
I have a client who is going through a divorce and am looking for some advice.
I currently have a co-worker who is desperate to close a deal......
I was reading a post this past week on a parallel topic and began to wonder if some of these people actually are posting "anonymously" about themselves.  I mean as I write this we're over 142,000 members.  I'm thinking that there are a few people who just don't know how to get questions asked and answered without feeling … (14 comments)

active rain community: An Active Rain First for Me...I Met a Great Rainer Today!!!! - 02/24/09 12:06 AM
Over 500 posts and I've yet to "hang" with an Active Rainer.  Well let me redefine that.  I have a group of Active Rain Studs and Stud-ettes who hang on the phone once a week.  I have a lot of buddies who I've gotten to know on Active Rain...and I've had a lot of great phone calls from time to time from the fellow Active Rainers.  I have some just awesome and great relationships here.  I signed on a phenomenal branch off of Active Rain....
But....I had my first time just really hanging out and getting to know a great realtor who … (9 comments)

active rain community: Running for Office Because of Active Rain? A.R. The Political Tool!!!!! - 02/19/09 12:44 AM
I was sitting in a pub last Friday.  I had a hectic week and had a friend of mine come over for a 3:30 pm beer or two.  Then I went to the pub in my parking lot to have a brew with my friend.  Then my wife called and our niece was coming home for the weekend (there's another story on that) and my lovely wife (my only wife), Michelle said that she'd meet me for beer and a dinner there.  The other guy called his wife and within a few minutes we had a few appetizers and dinner.    So … (27 comments)

active rain community: Why Your Posts Need to be Quality Now More than Ever!!!! - 02/07/09 03:49 PM
With over 133,000 members, the ability to get a featured post is more difficult than ever.  If you think about it there are a few reasons why;
1)  You're now 1 in 133,000.  The odds of you having a featured post are diminishing.  However, I will be the first to say that quality still rules.  You want to get noticed in a community that is the size of Fort Collins, Coloradon well on the way to becoming the size of Kansas City, Kansas or Des Moines, Iowa.  I don't care who you are...you need to be out and about and have … (20 comments)

active rain community: Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder!!!! - 02/02/09 12:32 PM
Being the Active Rain addict that I am, I really have grown fond of the day in and day out contacts and communications with fellow Active Rainers and all the members of Joe Q. Public.   I have posted emphatically about the business awesomeoness (love that word - - - kinda like GI-NORMOUS) of what you can actually do FOR YOUR BUSINESS while playing in the rain.
Today however, it's all about comraderie, or shall I say, missed comraderie.  Last week I was on the road recruiting and visiting all of my branches in Wisconsin for four days.  I love leaving home … (13 comments)

active rain community: TABOO on Active Rain??? I THINK NOT!!!! - 11/18/08 11:59 PM
Is there no topic on Active Rain that is Taboo?  I spent a better part of last night searching every conceivable topic is covered under Active Rain.  yOU name the topic and you'll find it.  Crack, Panties, Ant-Christ, and Margaritas.  What do they have to do with real estate and real estate blogging?  Not really sure.  Some of the topics are found in the titles, some are in the text of each post.  Here's a sample of my research.  I'm working on a Phd on Active Rain Research.  Let me start with a sampling of my findings.  Shall we start wtih … (37 comments)

active rain community: Active Crack!!!!! - 08/25/08 03:12 AM
I can't handle it.  I hate the stuff.  I can't wait for a fix though.  OK...just one more time and I'm done.  Jeeez....I must be some sort of junkie.  My friends always called the TV show "24"....Crack TV.  Once you sign on, then you can't get off.  The Hotel California.
Active Crack, er Active Rain!  It was hard this weekend, but I went into a 2 day detox program, but am already back shooting up.  Comment on this post, draft another.  I HAVE STUFF TO GET DONE!  But here I am snorting a line of the RAIN.
I do get lots … (17 comments)

active rain community: Active Rain's been Active for Me! Just got my 11th deal last night! - 08/01/08 12:12 AM
Your personality.  Your consistency.  Your topics.  YOUR ETHICS.  These are all important factors in getting you out there in the community.  I'm not really sure why I've had a lot of success on AR.  I'd like to believe that the most predominant factors are my education, consistency and ethics.  While communicating to the world, I have been able to get some appropriate exposure and actually take and close deals all through AR.
Last night I recieved my 11th deal since joining AR.  Last week I closed my 10th.  If I were to quantify the revenue, I'd say that it's over 30K … (89 comments)

active rain community: No More "ENTER THE TEXT BELOW' - 07/30/08 02:03 AM
Not too often I comment on a deminimus item here.  However when commenting on some blogs today, for the first time I realized that members do not have to type in the word below.  Or type in the name of the fruit below.  It's awesome....it appearse that once you're signed in...YOU'RE IN.  No more "you put the incorrect text graphics below."
Some other AR changes appear as well.  Localism is a feature.  I still don't understand all of the AR improvements, but can I say....THANK YOU VERY MUCH.  I love what I see so far.

active rain community: The Active Rain Survival Kit!!!!!!!!!! - 07/22/08 03:29 AM
I've been here for 1.5 years.  I love it.  I thought I'd share my few pearls of wisdom that'll help you learn quicker than I learned.  This past weekend, I asked an fairly straightforward question that evolved into a sub bloggin post of it's own.  Members started to get cross against each other before finally getting everything past them and moving forward today.  So....in hindsight, I was thinking that there are some AR safety tips (Image from www.bellaonline.com/articles/art42143.asp)

First....communication should be two way.....  One way communication tends to get lost or taken the wrong way.  One of the nice tips … (20 comments)

1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
