It is important that we maintain safe conditions around our water heaters. There are warnings in the instructions, but who reads those anyway. But it just makes sense to keep the area clear.
Water heaters need the circulation of air and free of debris. This is especially true for a gas water heater, these units have flames that can cause problems. There are some safety issues that we need to keep in mind when it comes to water heaters. One of those important safety requirements is the free flow of air around the unit. In order to function correctly space needs to be kept open.
While talking about something else in this home, it was mentioned that the water heater still needs a pan under the unit. It can be done easily when the unit is temporarily moved.
I didn't realize it was in the room we were standing in at the time.
