deer: This tomato plant was full and healthy yesterday! - 07/18/14 10:59 PM

One of the benefits of living in Greenstone Country in Placerville, is the animals that roam throughout the neighborhood on a regular basis. These animals include the deer who migrate daily across our property. The down side of this is that the deer eat plants at an alarming rate when you are away. Trying to grow something to last is an ongoing battle.

Looks like we have company – Photo

So I sitting at my computer earlier when I noticed that we had company. The deer have a regular daily migration, I usually don't get a chance to witness these guys passing through. Today I did get to see them; it's always fun to see the wildlife up close.

Deer On The Runway At Cameron Park Airport – Photo

So I’m driving down Alhambra Drive along the Cameron Park Airport and I look to my left and see a deer on the runway. I’ve never seen that before; the airport doesn’t get a lot of traffic so it probably won’t be a problem.
As I look up the runway a small plane is coming down the runway as it lands.
I guess the deer has been around this for a while, and managed to get out of the way in plenty of time.

Great day to just relax in the shade

As I walked out to do some chores this morning, I couldn’t help but notice a deer resting on the lawn. It kind of set the tone for the day; just take it easy for the day.

We see a lot of animals in our neighborhood and they all tend to look similar to each other. This one is special though. She has been coming around our home for about 5 years now on a regular basis.

How do I know this? Well ever since she was a … (17 comments)

Two Bucks and Some Change – Photo

I had the opportunity to shot these deer in the neighborhood today. They caught my eye because everyone was there; it’s not often when I can see the whole bunch in one shot like this.
The photo was taken in Greenstone Country in Placerville, CA

Enjoy the day!

deer: A Deer Old Friend Returns - Photo - 08/04/12 06:30 PM

One of the benefits of seeing the deer in Greenstone Country is that you can start to identify them by their differences. Generally, most deer look the same. Since deer tend to stay in the same territory, walking the same paths regularly you can begin to notice a few regulars.
A couple of years ago, I had noticed a young one that only had a single antler on his head. I didn’t know why he only had one antler, but I remember wondering if the other will ever grow back.

I saw this deer the other … (14 comments)

deer: Who is intruding on whose property? - Photo - 08/02/12 04:42 PM

Wildlife in Placerville, CA
One of the benefits of being a homeowner in Placerville and the foothills of the Sierras is that you get to be close to the wildlife on a regular basis.

These deer were right outside in the front yard acting as if they lived there.
It made me stop and think…
Who is intruding on whose property?

deer: Plenty to eat in the high grass - Photo - 05/04/12 06:36 PM

Plenty to eat in the high grass.

The late season rains have kept the grasses and vegetation tall and green for the deer in Greenstone Country. Sure, the weather has helped many of the animals here in Placerville, CA but I was able to shoot the deer as I drove past him tonight.
Enjoy the weekend!

deer: Foothill Living - Photo From a Community in Cameron Park, Ca - 11/06/11 03:01 PM
Living in the foothills in El Dorado County can bring you closer to nature. Turkeys, deer, and raccoons are not uncommon occurrences in many apartment communities in Cameron Park, Placerville, and the surrounding area.

This picture was taken through a bedroom window while working in an apartment in Cameron Park, Ca.

Sometimes nature just walks up to the window.

deer: Is it deer season? Let's shoot them! - 09/28/11 07:08 PM
The deer are out in large numbers right now. Traveling in packs herds, quietly passing through, eating my plants but generally harmless; the herd marches on.
I saw a herd of them yesterday in Greenstone Country and had to stop to shoot them. This time of year, the numbers are greater; more of the bucks can be seen, probably getting ready for the colder weather.

Just for fun I thought I'd include a video of the Mating Call Championships.

deer: Big Buck in Placerville, California Community - 09/23/11 07:32 PM

It’s not like I was out there on a hunting trip, I was standing in my front yard in Placerville. Looking across the street was a beautiful deer just grazing on the hillside.
The deer are out and about this time of year; it’s this time of year that the big bucks are on the move in the neighborhood.
Luckily, I had a means of taking the picture.
