memory lane: It is once again time to thank our Troops! - 07/29/11 06:47 AM
I know many of you are wondering what Holiday it is.  That seams to be the only time we talk about honoring our men and women in uniform.
Well, back on Memorial day a lot of us talked about honoring our troop smore often.  But, as life has it, other things come up and we forget.
Well, Todya I want to say thanks to all the active and to all the Verterans that have made this country what it is.
I am going to do my best to keep this group out in front of my life more often.
Salute!!!!!

memory lane: Memorial day is almost over. Will we remember tomorrow? - 05/30/11 12:51 PM
It is very sad that so many people have no REAL idea what Memorial Day is about.   The school kids should all know, but even many of them do not.
So the news will plaster all of the good deeds that the Politicians do today and others, but what about tomorrow?
What about a week from today, or a month or even longer.  Men and women gave their lives and some were disfigured for life.  But we only kinda think of them one day a year.  One day a year so that the rest of us can be free.
I wonder … (11 comments)

memory lane: I now run through the house! - 10/10/10 01:57 PM
Yup, if I need anything I get up and I run for it and then run back to where I was sitting.   I am eating dinner and need more mile, I get up and I run top the refrigerator, and then run back to my chair and sit down.
Time to take a shower, I run to the Bathroom and then I run to the sofa.  Now this is driving my wife crazy!  She told me so.  I told her.."Short Drive!"  Not funny.  That is why I am in the garage writing this.
I run for everything.  To get the mail.  To get … (17 comments)

memory lane: Is YOUR home fully documented? - 03/21/10 01:53 PM
My wife and I just finished up a rental unit to be moved into next week.  Now that it is done, I took pictures of every door, window, screen, floors you name it, I took a photo.
I put them on my computer for safe keeping and backed them up.  Then I thought..HMMM, when was the last time I did this at home?
What documentation do I have if we had a fire.  We do take a lot of pictures, but not detailed ones of our possession's.  So, this week, we are going to do just that.  I remember years ago we … (5 comments)

memory lane: Tradition is at Stake...The Turkey is Missing!! - 11/22/09 03:03 AM
It has been a long standing tradition.  The Sunday before Thanksgiving, we Butcher the Turkey. (NO Pardon from any Government officials for this Bird)   My Dad has and is a master a smoking Turkey's.  When done it is better than ham than ham.  We use this turkey for snacking.
Well, I went out this morning and grabbed my be-heading instrument and headed for the coop.  When I got there, GONE.  The Turkey was gone.  I have spent 2 hours looking all around the farm and it is no where to be found.  He was there last night when I gave him his 'last … (10 comments)

memory lane: If this old house could talk...what a tale it would have. - 10/03/09 03:19 PM
We closed downt he cabin today.  Shut off the water and battoned down the hatches.  When all done we headed out to mark trees.  (See my previous post).  While driving the back roads I came upon the old house set back against the encroaching woods.

I wondered who built this house now a mile from any other house old or new.  Who were they and why did they leave.  I let my mind wander to the olden days and I imagine that this house fit the meager needs of it's inhabitants.
Today, this was a treasure that you don't … (8 comments)

memory lane: Time flys...and it wasn't even as fun as it should have been. - 08/07/09 12:52 PM
27 years have gone by since I was Robbed.  It was a heart wrenching occourence that today haunts me.  Although, after blaming myself for many years, I have since forgiven myself, but the hurt is still there.
27 years ago, I was at my parents house.  I was 19 when my little sister was born and she was like my own.  At 2 weeks old she went everywhere I went when I was not working.  I married and started a family of my own over the 6 years that followed.  That fateful day, I had stopped by to bring her to … (9 comments)

memory lane: Do You remember Grandma's Apron? - 01/10/09 08:05 AM
I Remember Grandma's apron...most of us with farm families do.  If there ever was a utility 'tool', the Apron was it.

Now Days, I don't think our kids even know what an apron is.
The princepal reason for the apron, was to protect Grandma's dress underneath.  Grandma only had a few dresses and aprons' were easier to wash and took less material to make!
Grandma's Apron was used as a...
Pot holder for taking hot stuff from the oven.
To dry a tear or two from the child that was hurting and on occasion, to clean a dirty ear.

memory lane: 45 Years ago...TODAY! - 11/22/08 12:40 PM
45 years ago today, President John F. Kennedy was gunned down.  Setting all the controversy aside, I look back at what I was doing.
I was Pushing 9 years and still remember the day well.  I wasn't in school that day for some reason.  Mom and Grandma were wall papering the dinning room.  When the news flash came on, they stopped working and listened.  Tears came from my Grandmothers eyes.
I didn't really understand what had happened or who the President really was, but Grandma told me...this is a very important day in our countries history...remember what you are doing today, … (16 comments)
