When I was a full-time practicing agent out there in the trenches an opportunity came-up for me to volunteer for my local board. Called Grievance Committee, I was told I would sit on a panel and hear situations involving ethics and agents in real life scenarios. I thought that this could become quite helpful so I volunteered. I get a text from one of the sellers of a listing I didn't get asking me if they should accept an offer made to them. You see people usually appreciate something more when they lose it. I interviewed and invested time and money in a large listing that I didn't get. So imagine my surprise when I get the text asking for my opinion....now? ETHICS 101 All character driven agents know not to interfere with other agents & their clients who they have under contract & where fiduciary is at work. It wasn't good. She used a Real Estate agent "friend" and as she shared this, her nose crinkled and eyebrows went up on the mention of the word "friend" to make her point. She said she would never do that again but then who does? Her RE agent friend was no friend at all. Here are some.. SLIGHTS....a coming! Before we begin, I met these two in a Jacuzzi and one thing led to another and the story was shared. Word of mouth is powerful and what people really think should be taken seriously. The good news? They are doing us all a favor. How? The ones that do know a thing or two shine in their presence or in their wake. The ignorant or passing through agent makes the career minded professional stand-out providing a contrast not only the consumer but for the industry as well. The uncommitted haunt us all THE BALANCE The bad news is that many consumers will not get the services they are entitled too and wont even know about those services but form an opinion claiming all agents fail and they can do better. California Association of Realtors or C.A.R. I don't have verified information. This is buzz to me and if anyone knows something, share it please. I heard that if you file a grievance or request for a professional standards hearing with your local board of Realtors, they have instructions to take the picture of both the complainant and the respondent WHAT? I asked why to a colleague of mine. He said that if you get convicted of a wrong-doing, C.A.R. wants to post your picture along with the violation. I wanted to help agents help themselves to become sharper and more precise on what they were doing, are doing and why. Sitting on a grievance committee or professional standards board gave me direct access to practicing agents who may or may not be aware of certain rules. The problem was that we met when there was a problem or a complaint ACCOUNTABILITY I always thought, and still do, that if someone was able to see the error of their ways and change the part they played, then that would be a worthy endeavor and something proud to be a part of.
