pennies: WOULD YOU STOP TO PICK UP A PENNY

Your walking, hiking or riding your bike and you look down and you see something shiny. On further notice it turns out to be a penny. Would you stop? How about a nickel, dime or quarter? A lost earring? A pen or pencil? THE PENNY DOESN'T MAKE CENTS I have given up on picking up pennies for years now. I used to pick them up when I was a kid because you could go redeem them at a candy store and get 1, 2 or even 3 things for a penny. Those days are long, long gone. You made a decision. I hand you a million dollars and you walk away at a fast pace with things running through your mind. You are full of excitement and for the time being, all is well. Someone asks you, where did you get the money? You say someone said to me, take a million dollars right now or take a penny a day doubled for 30 days...I grabbed the million...That person says...OH NO! Day 1: $.01...We know. No big deal. I originally wanted to do a post on the subject of how expensive it is to have and use coins and it led me to realize how the government spends (and acts) irresponsibly. Then, there was so much data on the subject matter and I wanted to keep it short for a post. So, I am leaving a lot out, combining TWO points and leaving enough room for comments...... What it costs to make the following: PENNIES.......to make a penny or 1.38 cents...........NICKLES......to make a nickel or 8.83 cents To manufacture the pennies and nickels per year causes a loss $100 … (17 comments)
