active rain: Ask Ambassador What He Does When He Does Not Know What To Do - 12/06/13 10:33 AM
How many times on AR reading the post, where members were not sure about certain things, I thought that in this situation I would go to my best attorney. Luckily, now I have many working for me.
I am a broker of a tiny family company; I do not the backing of a team of lawyers, and I do not have the time and money for every question I stumble upon. Maybe it is because I have too many questions :)
Even in situations, when I can go and ask, for example, the attorney in the law firm we work with … (16 comments)

active rain: Racing Horses of Blogging... - 12/02/13 02:05 PM
Cathy Streib posted This Daily Blogging-Here We Go Again! It's All About CRAPP! It is a good and clever post about HOW to handle posting on daily basis. This is not about HOW but rather about Why.
Why post every day? What is the benefit of posting every day? I believe that posting every day, every other day, or at any other regular or irregular intervals is irrelevant, as regularity is not the virtue of blogging. We should not confuse it with menstrual cycle, where regularity is meaningful… I believe we need to start with “Why are we blogging?” I do … (26 comments)

active rain: Fixing What Is Not Broken - 11/26/13 03:39 PM

I am sure you already noticed this nice feature of the dashboard, when you go over with the cursor, it highlights it and makes it sort of pop up?
So, if you like me, and this jumpy stuff annoys you, here is how to deal with it in Mac. You put your cursor pass the right edge of the box and then scroll with no problem. No jumpy stuff, nothing.
We are getting good avoiding the changes on AR. If somebody would teach me how to avoid this freaking pop up screen when you click blogs, I would be very … (4 comments)

active rain: AR Pest Control... - 11/11/13 04:00 PM
If you blog, then you get those spam comments with some BS and then a link to another site, which will make you rich…
No, I do not read this stuff. And, of course, I do not follow the link.
But I am very tempted to delete these comments when I see them... and I don’t.
If I delete the comment, yes, I get rid of it right away, but the cockroach is live and well, and will be leaving comments on other blogs posts. Your blog posts.
Deleting the comment only deletes one comment...
It is numbers game, … (14 comments)

active rain: Your Dog's Fifth Leg... - 10/31/13 04:07 PM

Wanted to check blog roll and see what new posts are their by those who I subscribe to, so clicked on “Blogs”, impatiently found Find More Blogs button on this hated pop up screen, and all I see are 10 blog posts. Nothing on the right, where I used to see faces of those I have subscribed to…
Changed the filters (another improvement, which was as needed as a fifth leg to a dog) to all blogs for 12 months, and … again got only 10 posts. No, there is no next or previous button.
Guess this is yet another … (9 comments)

active rain: What To Blog About? - 07/23/13 02:43 PM
I think it is a silly question.
You do not HAVE TO blog. Contrary to numerous pundits, who failed in Real Estate and are now teaching us how to do it, blogging and success in real estate are not tied together. Look around, check your top producers in your local association of Realtors, and you will see for yourself. So, not blogging is perfectly OK.
But if you want to blog, then content is the king. If you have nothing to say, people will have nothing to read.
The advice to write just anything is silly. People do not need an … (43 comments)

active rain: If It Ain't Broken, Don't Fix It - 07/13/13 05:33 AM
Hmm, we always had “Subscribe to Blog” button on our AR.
Today I decided to subscribe to AR member, and started looking for “Subscribe” button and couldn’t find it. But there was “Follow to Blog” button. After some hesitation, I pressed it and… BINGO… the page returned the red warning sign but with a positive message that I am now … subscribed.
Interesting. I “Followed to Blog” (which I do not understand), and ended up Subscribed… Hmm, do I need to pat myself on the back for producing 2 actions by pressing one button once? Obviously, there is an idea behind … (16 comments)

active rain: Our First AR Multi-Millionaire. Congratulations, Lenn Harley - 07/10/13 08:15 AM
Now we got the first multi-millionaire, and we all know her.  Congratulations, Lenn Harley.
2 Million points... What a journey.
Lenn was #1 for quite some time before Todd. I think, she passed Bryan Tutas, and became the Queen of Active Rain until a young and aspiring Todd Clark took the throne.
He is still here, not far behind. It is simply mind boggling journey and it shows the personal qualities everyone could only envy about.
I do not need to list them here.
She has what to say.
She knows how to say it.
She is saying it with … (16 comments)

active rain: We Used To Be Brilliant - 03/22/13 12:00 PM
Bob Stewart of Active Rain posted Who Do You Consider an Industry Trend Setter? As if he stepped on my toe. It is something I think about often, and write about sometimes. Bob is honest about the changes. It is life, good or bad.
Bringing bright minds is like bringing celebrities to your dinner. Shines for the evening, but when the celebrity leaves, the family stays. If the family is boring, the celebrity will not change it.
I think on AR, it is the quality of the family that changed. Like moving from a small town to a big … (85 comments)

active rain: Talk To Me, Baby, Talk... - 03/22/13 03:14 AM
I will always remember this story, when a volunteer from our New York office decided to look into retiring in Florida and went to check those communities for 55+.
She was in a Club House waiting for her husband, and at next table there were 4 older ladies. She did not pay attention to the conversation, but then suddenly noticed that it actually was not a conversation. They were talking to themselves. They did not listen to each other. There were 4 monologues, but not a conversation.
I see it on AR when you read a blog, and there is an … (16 comments)

active rain: The Power of Kennedy - 03/17/13 09:48 AM
My blog post"Relationship Is When You Are Naked In Bed" was featured, had its share of activity for few days, and then it all stopped. That's how blog posts live and die, nothing unusual.
Unusual , however, was that today, on Sunday morning, after 3 days of it being dormant, there were comments, and not an occasional one, but ten of them. That was very unusual, and I was puzzled by it, and even commented on this strange occurence asking why suddenly there was extra activity.
And right after that the comment popped up and it was from Patricia Kennedy, … (4 comments)

active rain: I Am Soooo Angry... - 02/19/13 02:26 AM
Dear General Manager,
Please cancel rental of our unit xxx as it is ridiculous that we pay fees ($ 120)  to rent it rather then making a revenue
I received this email today. It was not to me, it is to General Manager of a condo-hotel in Daytona Beach Shores, but the owner, my former client, copied me.
So, here we are. February 19, 2013. Daytona 500 is just in few days, every room in the area is rented for the highest amount they ever charge during the year, and my client wants out, because he received the invoice for $120…for … (8 comments)

active rain: Champagne and Chocolate For The Soul - 02/14/13 01:10 AM
Contrary to popular belief, writing is G-d given talent, and G-d isn’t really generous with it. I assume this popular belief is because, technically, we all can write. We all have our little talents, but then there are a few people who are blessed. Contrary to popular belief (here I go again – LOL), talented people are not always really popular. How many of us are reading everyday crap, but haven’t read literary masterpieces since school or college? The ability to rhythm, or to write is a technical skill. Poetry is when the words magically create that new something, which does … (4 comments)

active rain: I Want To Help, But Do Not Like The Cause - 02/09/13 11:48 PM
When I first wanted to campaign on Gail’s behalf, which was, probably more than a year ago, I asked my daughter Inna to call Gail and talk to her. Gail thanked, but she refused. Among other things it was because it could hurt her business if she goes public with that. And hurting her business wasn’t my idea.
So, I ended up doing nothing, Inna and Jon helped her with some stuff for her business. When she posted 2 days ago, I thought that now she understands that she did not get loan modification, she so believed in, and I thought … (8 comments)

active rain: Can You Short Sale? - 01/27/13 11:18 PM
I am curious whether weird economy is paired with weird English. «Short sale» is a very common combination, and I doubt there is anyone in the nation, who at least have not heard it or read it.
Of course, you can find it everywhere. And often in a sentence, where it is used as a verb.
«... to short sale».
But sale is not a verb. I could understand «to short sell», but I have a feeling that «to short sale» is not really English...
But I am an immigrant, and can easily be confused, so what do you think?

active rain: A Failure Called Achievement - 01/26/13 01:48 PM
I ran into this featured blog post by Tracy Lee Parker Be PROUD to short sale your home!  and I can't disagree more.
I also can't agree to some comments, where all the blame goes to lenders, as if we were signing Notes and Mortgages under the big influence of heck knows what. I do not like the reference to Lenders because it makes us idiots. The bank was not creating the fake value, it only provided money... or easy money.
But for the same token Las Vegas casino carries a promise of a big win. Or Powerball... So, if i … (71 comments)

active rain: Condolences On Your Achievements... - 01/20/13 01:45 PM

For the last few weeks something started happening, which did not happen before. I am pretty bad with Social media, so I figure there is a new trend, which I do not know about.
I started getting messages that I have been endorsed on LinkedIn by a whole  bunch of people.
I am getting messages “Jon, I’ve just endorsed you for new skills & expertise!”
As if I suddenly became very visible and popular guy. The endorsements come from real estate people, who know me through AR, but they also come from people outside the professional circles. I got endorsed … (17 comments)

active rain: How Money Grows... - 01/09/13 04:09 PM
I have been selling condo-hotels for 11 years. Every time I ask my Buyers how they intend to use a condo-hotel unit. Usually they say it is their vacation getaway, that they do not plan to retire in Daytona, would rent it when not in use by them, which is what condo-hotels are for.
But time from time they tell me they are not going to rent, and will be staying there either full time, or months and months at a time, and I try to explain to them that this is the wrong use for condo-hotel, and they are not … (2 comments)

active rain: I Was Talking To A Schmuck... - 01/08/13 03:05 AM

If you are clumsy, as I am, you know that “surprise” of sending the email message to the wrong recipient. It happened to me yesterday. I started typing the email address and immediately there was a pop up showing a bunch of email addresses starting with these letters, and I scrolled down to the right one and clicked and then clicked “Send”, but because my fingers worked faster than my brain, I did not even noticed that I clicked second best, which ended up in the wrong mailbox.
The one I was sending, was to my client. The one where … (114 comments)

active rain: … And A Lobster! - 12/06/12 12:19 PM
I finally “succumbed” to an AR meet-up. It was in Cocoa Beach, good 79 miles from me. Why Cocoa? Why not Orlando? Because Orlando has not hosted a meet up ever. I am puzzled why nobody hosted a meet-up in Orlando, with all active AR members in the area… But they don’t, so my choices are several hour drive to South Florida, or just an hour and 20 minutes to Cocoa Beach.
How the host Diana Zaccaro manages to do it in tiny Cocoa Beach was a burning question. So, my wife agreed to accompany me and we went. There are … (33 comments)
