daytona beach: Ritz Carlton Has A Better Customer Service. But For Big Bucks - 11/26/08 07:10 PM
By virtue of having my office in the Condo-Hotel, I am involved in them more than I would like it.
There are advantages of having the office in the condo-hotel and disadvantages. Advantage is that you are on the ocean. You can walk out of your office and enjoy the breeze, give rest to your eyes, just take a break and recoup. Of course, I do not do any of that, but isn't it this way in life: we are dying to have something, and then never use it. Knowing that I can go there any time, that;s what important. Also, the convenience … (9 comments)

daytona beach: Married To A Computer? - 11/12/08 02:05 PM
Cris Elizabeth Griffith wrote a post which was awarded a gold start Not Social Networking 2.0
I suggest you read it, it is interesting. 40+ commenters pretty much in agreement. I am reading it and both agreeing and not agreeing. Something inside tells me that it is not that simple, and it is not that black and white.
The idea, if described in a few words, is that social networking is a must, and you are doomed without it, if you are working on the Internet.
Something makes me to rebel. I have difficult time to agree that this is actually … (12 comments)

daytona beach: Stories of the Past. Hopefully - 11/04/08 03:33 PM
After getting married (today, November 5 is our 38th anniversary), we lived in a room in 3 room apartment, sharing one bathroom and one kitchen. thhis was in middle Russia area. Three families in this apartment. That was sort of fun.
Anyway, the next door lady worked at the lab at the penicillin plant, she was testing the air for the pollution. She laughingly told us that they would measure the pollutants, then give the report to the boss, and he would add 0. in front of their number. She laughed that every step of the way, the bosses would change … (25 comments)

daytona beach: Voting In Different Worlds - 11/01/08 04:39 PM
Today was the last day of Early Voting, and we decided to try to cast out vote earlier, so that we would not be worrying about it on November 4, and we also expect much longer lines on November 4. The voting is form 7 AM to 7 PM. i was working in the office, and my wife picked me a bit too late, and we showed up at the City Island Library - the early voting place - at 6:40 PM. There was a long line, but we were told that it was moving fast, so we joined the voting … (6 comments)

daytona beach: My Friend, Florida Tomato and Art - 10/24/08 12:54 PM

Some time ago I wrote a blog Meeting a Russian Artist. Right Here in Port Orange  about a fascinating guy, who is an artist. Well, a real artist.
He has graduated from a college of fine arts, and then got his Masters from a prestigious Russian art school in St. Petersburg, Russia.
He's been a Port Orange resident for several years now, absolutely legal (so all my AR friends can sleep tonight -LOL).
I took the top photo, but I did not have a nice head shot, so I called Yuri and asked that sends me one. He sent two and … (6 comments)

daytona beach: Buyers Market. What Do You Eat It With? - 10/21/08 05:42 PM
We all tend to agree that this is the Buyer's Market. However, we also tend to agree that the Buyers are actually doing everything else, including such an unpleasant activity as sitting on the fence.
So, if this is the Buyer's Market, why are they not buying? Don't you think that there is something wrong with it? Maybe not.
Though I am not offering the magic trick to change the status quo, I suggest that we look at the semantics here. I think we need to define it the way it is, which is:
Sellers Market is when there is the … (13 comments)

daytona beach: Biketoberfest... Gorgeous Bikes and Sexy Women - 10/19/08 08:00 PM
Biketoberfest is over today. Tomorrow the city will feel deserted and smaller groups of bikers, who stayed extra day or two, will remind us of this event.
I am always impressed by this show of the bikes, nikel and chrome, spotless and shining like a freshly mint quarter.
Hotels, emptied by the noisy crowd, will take a few days to clean and get ready for occasional visitor. This is a very strange time, the weather finally has mercy on us from the heat and humidity of Florida summers, the water is warm and inviting and... it is deserted.
I remember on the … (4 comments)

daytona beach: Why Am I In Florida - 10/19/08 06:20 AM
It is a sunny, very windyand cool day in Daytona Beach. Feels like cold front is here. We are not even hitting 80F, and this is the first time since late Spring. Ocean is still warm, warmer than the air, but it is too choppy. 2 last days I keep the windows open at night, and we turned off the air conditioner.
Daytona Beach andsurrounding areas are filled with the sound of Harleys, better say thousands of Harleys, as this is the last day of Biketoberfest. People enjoy the weather, all the fun of this terrific event, music, food, showing off … (20 comments)

daytona beach: Weekend In Ponce Inlet - 09/08/08 03:57 PM
Sunday is the day when I try to make it to the beach. Shouldn't be that difficult as I live across the street from the beach and every morning I rush to the glass sliding balcony door to catch a glimpse of the Atlantic.
Ponce Inlet is a small town of about 3,300 residents on the southern tip of the barrier island. There are no bridges to the mainland, so this is a dead end of two roads going South: Atlantic Ave and Peninsula Dr. No hotels/motels, no industry, a quaint and beautiful small Florida town with gorgeous beaches, nature preserves … (6 comments)

daytona beach: Harbour Village in Ponce Inlet, Florida - 09/03/08 07:01 PM
Harbour Village. 172-acre development with 104 acres that will not be developed, with over a mile of elevated walkways, Harbour Village is the only large development in a quaint town of Ponce Inlet on the southern tip of the Peninsula. There are no bridges to mainland, and all roads end there. No transients, not hotels/motels, just residential areas with restaurants and marinas dotting the Intracoastal shoreline on the Eest, and pristine white sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean on the East. The 721-unit development spans from the Intracoastal to the Atlantic Ocean, consists of several smaller communities:
1. Rivers Edge 6 buildings with garages … (4 comments)

This small but beautiful park is located at the footsteps of Granada Avenue Bridge on the mainland side on the north east side of intersection of Granada Avenue and North Beach Street. The City of Ormond Beach has completed the renovations to Bailey Riverbridge Gardens meeting house. The new kitchen area consists of new countertops, cabinets, flooring and paneling. To enhance the storage needs, they have installed two … (3 comments)

daytona beach: Amplifying The Offer - 08/20/08 12:31 PM
With Georgia-Russia conflict, I have not written about real estate for quite some time and feel sort of ashamed. So, this is my exoneration...
When we have the buyer, we put together the best offer we can, have the Buyer signs and dates it and we send it to the Listing agent. Now it is in his/her corner. In situations where the offer is full price or otherwise is a very strong one and I am confident it is accepted on the spot, there is no worry.
Usually, however, my buyers do not want to pay the full price and come up … (4 comments)

daytona beach: Unwelcome Guest Is Here - 08/19/08 03:15 PM
Every summer we brace up for those unwelcome guests. Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Ivan... A lot of destruction, washed away beaches, for many it was lost power in 90-degree heat and humidity, people tired of living without AC, and no fridges working.
This was in 2004.
Now we got Fay. Not a major hurricane, just a named tropical storm.
The governor declared the state of emergency, everyone is ready, schools in the path of the storm are closed, and kids, after just one day in school, are happy that they get a break.
The day started quietly. The storm was battering Brevard … (1 comments)

daytona beach: My Million Dollar Jackpot - 07/30/08 07:38 PM
17 years ago today after a 10- hour flight from Moscow, Boeing 747 (PanAm) has landed in New York at JFK. With $400 in our combined pockets, me, my wife, my son, who turned 19 that day, and our rebellious 17.5- y.o. daughter came to USA.
While waiting at immigration, we were trying to imagine our life in two years, in 3 years, in 5 years... All we knew was that we were in America and it was obviously a miracle that we made it here, that nobody stopped us and told us to get lost. We knew what we were … (33 comments)

daytona beach: 10 Minutes To Run To Canadian Border - 07/30/08 01:31 PM
We all get this. Very frustrating. And very time consuming.
You work with clients, build the rapport, and then 'bang', something happens, and they are running in panic. This is simple: someone told them something. A cautious friend, a bartender, a taxi driver...  They say something and one minute later they forget it, but it scares your clients and 10 minutes later they are crossing the Canadian border...
A long time aquaintance of mine had commerical land in one nice FLorida city. Terrific 1.47 acres. Needed to do something with it. The place is one of the fastest growing in the nation, location couldn't be … (6 comments)

daytona beach: Who Comes To The Beach In the Middle Of The Night? - 07/26/08 05:41 PM
Last Tuesday my 16-y.o.grandson staying with us for a week, decided to go to the ocean very early, and I suggested that he takes the camera with him, which he did.
He went to the beach when it was still dark. And he was lucky. Just a dozen yards from the walkway, he saw a 4' Green Turtle laying eggs in the sand.
This was a perfect moment. He had a camera, and turtles do not fly, so he had time to make some interesting photos. He did not take photos of her actually laying eggs, as it was still dark … (17 comments)

daytona beach: Visiting a Real Estate Expo in Miami - 07/19/08 05:29 PM
I was seriously tempted by salepeople to get a booth at a Real Estate Expo. Both times I ended not signing up, but I was not sure whether I was missing on a golden marketing opportunity or not, so when I somehow managed to miss the Expo in Orlando, I was relieved that I could visit the Expo in Miami. It is a 4 hour drive and it gets expensive with gas prices over $4 a gallon, but it was still closer than Long Island, so there we went.
The Expo is free for visitors, with only a couple of seminars for a fee. Of two … (2 comments)

daytona beach: Race is Over, Thanks for Business - 07/06/08 05:10 PM
The big race, Pepsi 400 is over, crazy traffic disappeared, hotels' employees are swamped with cleaning all those vacated units, stores are counting change...
Daytona is returning to normal summer vacation activities.
The event was badly needed, it helped local businesses, local vendors. For a monent we thought people will not come because of the gas prices, but hotels were all booked and some overbooked. People called to make last minute reservations and there were no rooms available.
This is very good news. The next big event is Biketoberfest coming in October, a 4 day event.
The real estate market in … (0 comments)
